Ciudad Juarez, March 25 – The American Space – Ciudad Juarez successfully concluded its “Artificial Intelligence for Civil Society” workshop, drawing 37 participants from various community, educational, and cultural organizations.
Workshop Focuses on Ethical AI and Practical Applications
During the intensive session, attendees delved into the fundamental concepts of AI, including its operational mechanisms, security and privacy considerations, and the ethical implications of using these powerful tools. A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to hands-on activities, where participants practiced creating prompts and developing AI agents. They also focused on identifying practical strategies to integrate AI technology into their respective projects and initiatives.
The workshop was led by Omar Saucedo, Manager of Microsoft TechSpark, and Said Prieto, from Mechatronics. Both instructors provided practical examples and facilitated dynamic exercises to encourage active participation and deeper understanding among the attendees. Their expertise ensured that the complex subject matter was accessible and engaging for all participants.
Future Workshops Planned for Educational and Industrial Sectors
Following the success of this workshop, the organizers have announced plans for two additional sessions. One workshop will be specifically tailored for educational institutions, aiming to equip educators with AI knowledge and tools. The other will target the industrial sector, with the goal of broadening the application and understanding of artificial intelligence across different industries in Ciudad Juarez.
The American Space – Ciudad Juarez operates as a collaborative initiative between the Consulate General of the United States in Ciudad Juarez and the La Rodadora Interactive Space. This partnership is dedicated to fostering skill development and training within the community through various programs, including those in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields and English language proficiency.
Related Initiatives and Community Engagement
This event comes amidst other significant community activities in Ciudad Juarez. Recently, a campaign by the Municipal Women’s Institute, “This is also violence,” gained traction online, expanding reach to victims through digital tools like QR codes, chatbots, and NFC technology. In another development, the SAT revoked authorization for 100 civil society organizations to receive tax-deductible donations, including prominent groups like Mexicanos Primero and México Evalúa, urging them to regularize their fiscal status. Furthermore, a forum is being organized for 150 representatives of civil society organizations to learn about resource acquisition and compliance with SAT regulations. The community also saw a poignant effort where citizens used AI to create an image of how a deceased infant, found tragically, might have looked, as authorities continue to search for those responsible.
The successful conclusion of the AI workshop underscores a growing commitment in Ciudad Juarez to embrace technological advancements responsibly and ethically, empowering its civil society to leverage these tools for community betterment.
