Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – March 15, 2026 – The Association of Journalists of Ciudad Juárez (APCJ) has officially launched the call for entries for the 2026 edition of the prestigious “Columna de Plata” Annual Journalism Award. This esteemed competition seeks to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding contributions of communication professionals in the region, emphasizing the quality, informative rigor, and social impact of their journalistic endeavors.

Traditional Structure Maintained with New Provisions

The “Columna de Plata” award maintains its traditional structure, offering recognition across eight distinct journalistic genres. This comprehensive approach ensures that a wide array of informative and opinion-based expressions within the journalistic field are considered for their merit. The categories for submission include: news story, interview, chronicle, photography, reportage, column, article, and cartoon.

A significant new provision introduced for the 2026 edition by the APCJ is the explicit prohibition of submitting works created with Artificial Intelligence. This measure underscores the association’s commitment to protecting intellectual authorship and preserving the integrity and traditional craft of journalism.

Eligibility and Submission Guidelines

Journalists are invited to participate with works that have been exclusively published or broadcast in Spanish. The eligible period for these works is between May 1, 2025, and April 30, 2026. This timeframe ensures that the submitted entries reflect recent and relevant journalistic contributions.

Interested participants have multiple options for submitting their proposals:

  • In-person: Submissions can be made at the APCJ offices, located at Vicente Guerrero number 4955, Colonia Colegio.
  • By postal mail: Entries can be sent via postal service, addressed to the Association’s headquarters.
  • Online: A dedicated online capture platform is available at monitorapcj.com for digital submissions.

The deadline for physical and ordinary mail submissions is April 30, 2026, at 3:00 PM. The digital registration platform will remain open until May 1, 2026, at 3:00 PM.

Jury Decision and Award Ceremony

The judging panel for the “Columna de Plata 2026” will comprise distinguished personalities from the journalistic and academic spheres. Their decision will be final and unappealable, ensuring a fair and impartial evaluation process.

Winners of the “Columna de Plata 2026” will be honored with the coveted “Columna de Plata 2026” statuette, a monetary incentive, and a certificate of participation. The grand award ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 5, 2026, at the Alameda hall of the El Paseo hotel, promising a celebratory event for the journalistic community.

Context of Journalism in Ciudad Juárez

The “Columna de Plata” award plays a crucial role in fostering excellence in journalism within Ciudad Juárez, a city that frequently serves as a focal point for national and international news due to its unique geopolitical and social dynamics. The recognition of high-quality journalism is essential in a region where accurate and impactful reporting can significantly contribute to public discourse and community understanding.

The APCJ’s initiative to include a clause against AI-generated content also highlights a growing global concern within the media industry regarding the ethical implications and future of human-led journalism in an increasingly automated world. By emphasizing original authorship, the award reinforces the value of human insight, critical thinking, and investigative journalism.

This annual event not only celebrates individual achievements but also serves as a platform to elevate the standards of journalism across Ciudad Juárez and beyond, encouraging practitioners to pursue excellence and maintain ethical practices in their craft.
