Chihuahua, December 12 – Residents of Chihuahua are advised to prepare for a significant drop in temperatures and strong winds this weekend, as a new polar frontal system is expected to impact the region. The system will arrive in northern Mexico on Saturday and move towards the Gulf of Mexico by Sunday, reinforcing winter conditions and leading to a notable thermal descent.
Ciudad Juárez and Sierra to Experience Severe Cold
In Ciudad Juárez, the temperature drop will begin around 11:00 PM on Saturday, December 13, and the cold weather is projected to last until Monday, December 15. Anticipated temperatures in the city range from a maximum of 17 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 4 degrees Celsius.
The impact will be more severe in the mountainous Sierra regions, where minimum temperatures are forecast to fall between -10 and -5 degrees Celsius. These areas can expect severe frosts from early Saturday morning through early Monday morning. In contrast, the southwestern part of the state might see afternoon highs of 30 to 35 degrees Celsius.
Strong Winds Expected Across the State
The arrival of the new cold front will also be accompanied by significant winds. On Saturday and Sunday, gusts of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour are expected. These strong winds are a result of the polar system’s advance and its interaction with an upper-level trough. Authorities recommend extreme caution due to the risk of falling trees, signs, and light structures, particularly in urban areas.
