Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua – The Chihuahua State Government, through its Undersecretariat of Government, conducted a series of inspections on establishments that sell and commercialize alcoholic beverages between September 14 and 20, 2026. These operations resulted in a total of 11 closures across the state, with the majority occurring in Ciudad Juárez.

Extensive Inspections Lead to Multiple Closures

A total of 345 inspections were performed during the specified week. These actions aimed to ensure compliance with regulations governing the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages. The closures were distributed as follows:

  • Chihuahua City: 3 establishments
  • Delicias: 1 establishment
  • Ciudad Juárez: 7 establishments

The inspections are part of ongoing efforts by the state government to maintain order and enforce regulations within the alcohol sales sector, addressing issues ranging from operating without proper permits to violating business licenses.

Details of Closures in Chihuahua City

In the state capital, three establishments faced closure due to significant irregularities:

  • The restaurant bar “La Chiquita Padel Bar” was shut down for operating without the necessary permits.
  • The cockfighting arena “Feria de Santa Rita” was closed for operating outside of its authorized hours.
  • The restaurant “Julianas” also faced closure for similar violations related to operating hours.

These closures highlight the government’s commitment to ensuring that all businesses adhere to their operational licenses and permits, especially concerning hours of operation for establishments serving alcohol.

Delicias Sees One Closure

In the city of Delicias, one establishment was closed:

  • The liquor store “Las Mil Batallas” was shut down for operating outside of its permitted hours.

This incident further underscores the strict enforcement of operating hours for alcohol vendors across the state.

Seven Establishments Closed in Ciudad Juárez

Ciudad Juárez experienced the highest number of closures, with seven establishments being penalized for various infractions:

  • The restaurant bar “Bar República” was closed for lacking the required operating permit.
  • The self-service liquor store “Modelorama 164” faced closure due to the absence of its annual revalidation.
  • The self-service liquor store “Súper Six Terranova” was shut down for violating its business license, indicating it was operating beyond its authorized scope.
  • Four convenience stores, namely “Six Valle,” “Súper Six Xeroncoles,” “Six la Güereja,” and “Six El Primo,” were all closed for similar violations of their business licenses.

These actions in Ciudad Juárez indicate a focused effort to regulate not only bars and restaurants but also smaller retail outlets that sell alcoholic beverages, ensuring they comply with all aspects of their licensing.

Related Incidents and Ongoing Concerns

These recent closures follow a series of related incidents and ongoing concerns regarding alcohol sales and establishment compliance. Previously, personnel from the government revised bars in Plaza Portales after an incident involving unconscious young people. Establishments there could face severe penalties for irregularities, including selling adulterated beverages and admitting minors.

A call for a working group involving the government and Coespris (Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks) was made to review protocols in bars, especially after the incident in Plaza Portales. The president of Canaco (National Chamber of Commerce) emphasized the vulnerability of women in such situations, stating, “A woman is more exposed than a man; we cannot leave them unprotected.”

Furthermore, bars from which two unconscious young people were removed were also closed, with citizens complaining about the sale of alcohol to minors in the area. Other incidents included a stabbing at a cockfighting arena and employees consuming alcohol on duty, which also led to closures. Inspectors also reported resistance from some businesses during reviews and issues with overcrowding.

These related events underscore a broader pattern of non-compliance and the government’s intensified efforts to address these issues through stricter enforcement and inspections.
