Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, February 15, 2026 – The Chihuahua State Government, through the Ministry of Rural Development (SDR), has donated 650 trees to the Federal Elementary School Sector 17 in Ciudad Juárez. This initiative benefits 32 schools participating in the “Creating Pleasant Environments with Green Areas in My School” project, aimed at fostering environmental awareness and improving learning conditions.
The distribution event took place at the Alfonso Hernández Pérez Elementary School, facilitating the delivery of the trees to the participating institutions located in the southeastern part of the city.
Boosting Environmental Awareness and Social Responsibility
Carlos Ortiz Villegas, representative of the Governor’s Office in Ciudad Juárez, emphasized that this action strengthens environmental awareness and social responsibility from an early age. He highlighted the project’s goal of promoting spaces with more shade, cleaner air, and more suitable conditions for learning.
Miguel Núñez, regional liaison for the SDR in the Northern Zone, confirmed that this initiative is part of a broader school reforestation strategy designed to establish sustainable green areas within educational institutions.
Diverse Species for Local Climate
The donated species include oaks, ash trees, palo verdes, pines, and other varieties adapted to the region’s climate. These trees were specifically chosen for their resilience and viability in the local environment, ensuring their successful growth and contribution to the green spaces.
The trees will be allocated to school zones 78, 79, 164, and 177. The objective is to encourage students to protect and conserve natural spaces within their educational centers, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility towards their environment.
Beyond the Green Initiative: Other Government Actions
This environmental effort is one of several recent government actions in Chihuahua. In the past week, the State Government conducted 288 inspections, leading to the closure of 13 establishments. Additionally, over 5,500 students of Cobach received computer equipment across six campuses, and the Civil Pensions Delegation in Juárez invested nearly 4 million pesos in equipping a Hemodialysis Unit.
The government also announced discounts on Vehicle Revalidation for 2026, and the State Attorney General’s Office demanded a review of a case following the release of a crematorium owner. These diverse initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to various sectors, from environmental protection and education to public health and legal oversight.
The State Public Works Secretariat is overseeing progress on mobility and health projects in Ahumada, while the State Institute for Women (ICHMujeres) has installed five new ‘Orange Points’ in Saucillo. The 6th Business Meeting of the mining sector has commenced in the capital, and a new consulting room area in the Emergency Department of Civil Pensions of the State aims to strengthen care. The Ministry of Public Function has also brought together Ethics committees, indicating a broad range of governmental activities across the state.
The “Creating Pleasant Environments with Green Areas in My School” project is a testament to the State Government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for its citizens, starting with the youngest members of the community. By investing in green infrastructure and environmental education, the government aims to create a healthier and more sustainable future for Ciudad Juárez and the wider Chihuahua region.
