Chihuahua State Intervenes 16,000 Square Meters of Facades in Juarez Downtown
Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico – March 3, 2026 – The Chihuahua State Government has launched the ‘Colores de Chihuahua’ program, investing 1.5 million pesos to intervene 16,000 square meters of facades in the historic center of Ciudad Juarez. This initiative aims to enhance the urban image and promote the city’s tourist destinations.
Enrique Toledo, Undersecretary of Tourism for the State of Chihuahua, stated that the project seeks to beautify historic centers, building facades, and public spaces to strengthen the urban image, restore community identity, and create more orderly, clean, and attractive environments for both residents and visitors.
Evolution of the ‘Colores de Chihuahua’ Program
The ‘Colores de Chihuahua’ program is an evolution of the former ‘Rutas Mágicas de Color’ initiative, which was previously a federal government project supported by the state and municipalities. As of 2026, the State Government has fully adopted the program, funding it entirely with state resources and some alliances.
Francisco Orrantia, Director of Tourist Planning, highlighted the program’s growth. In 2023, a pilot program was implemented in five municipalities with an investment of 2.4 million pesos. In a second phase last year, 11 municipalities were involved, with a total investment of 6.9 million pesos. Ciudad Juarez received the largest share of these funds.
Intervention Areas in Ciudad Juarez
In Ciudad Juarez, the 16,000 square meters of painting covered facades on the following streets:
- Santos Degollado, between Miguel Hidalgo and Acacias
- Ignacio Mariscal and Vicente Guerrero
- David Herrera Jordán and Vicente Guerrero, between Mariscal and Constitución
- Avenida 16 de Septiembre, between Ignacio Mariscal and Anáhuac
- Noche Triste, between Vicente Guerrero and Ugarte
Future Collaborations and Plans
Orrantia also indicated that for the next phase, the state government will collaborate with the Municipal Government on issues such as cleaning, waste management, and urban intervention. Officials are scheduled to visit the Historic Center to oversee the ongoing work, identify additional needs, and select other areas for future interventions.
The ‘Colores de Chihuahua’ program reflects the state’s commitment to improving the aesthetic appeal and overall quality of life in its cities, particularly in key tourist areas. This investment is expected to not only attract more visitors but also foster a greater sense of pride among the local population.
