Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Mexico City are expected to be marked by generally stable meteorological conditions, with no significant changes anticipated. While extreme cold is not in the forecast, a fresh atmosphere with cloudiness and a chance of light rain will prevail.

Weather Overview for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

The cloudiness and precipitation are linked to a large high-pressure system. Winds associated with this phenomenon will carry clouds from the Gulf of Mexico towards the Mexican coast and inland to the center of the country, including Mexico City.

Regarding temperatures, maximums of up to 21 °C are predicted during the afternoon, with periods of sunshine. There will be a notable thermal contrast between dawn and afternoon. Temperatures will drop significantly during the night and early morning, making it feel cold across much of the capital.

Temperature Details

  • Maximum Temperatures: Around 21 °C in central and eastern boroughs like Cuauhtémoc and Iztacalco.
  • Morning Temperatures: Between 6 and 8 °C in Cuajimalpa, Álvaro Obregón, La Magdalena Contreras, Tlalpan, and Milpa Alta. Lower in higher elevations.
  • Other Areas: 9 to 11 °C elsewhere in the city.
  • Lower Maximums: Below 17 °C in Cuajimalpa, Álvaro Obregón, La Magdalena Contreras, Tlalpan, and Milpa Alta.

Given this forecast of cold mornings and recovering daytime temperatures, it is recommended to dress in layers to adjust thermal comfort throughout the day. Protect children and the elderly from these temperature changes.

Light and Scattered Rain Expected

There is a probability of light and scattered rain during the afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday. This precipitation is most likely in the mountainous areas of the south and west, where less than 5 mm may accumulate. The rest of the city will experience cloudy conditions with periods of sunshine in the afternoon.

Fog and Visibility Warnings

Low visibility is expected during the early morning in the south of the capital. If the fog is very dense, it is advisable not to drive until visibility improves. Dense fog banks typically begin to dissipate between 9 and 10 a.m. Drive at a prudent speed and maintain a safe distance from other cars.

During nights and early mornings, dense fogs will be present, mainly in the mountainous areas of the city. Visibility will be reduced to less than 0.5 kilometers on the Autopista del Sol and in the boroughs of Milpa Alta and Tlalpan.

Wind Conditions

Wind is not expected to be a problem for outdoor plans. Both Wednesday and Thursday afternoons will see north winds reaching gusts of 25 to 35 kilometers per hour. During the rest of the day, there will be calm periods or very weak winds across all boroughs.

Recommendations for Residents

Residents are advised to consider these weather conditions when planning holiday celebrations and outdoor activities. Although severe weather phenomena are not expected, the combination of light rain and cold evening temperatures should be taken into account during these festive dates.

Key Advice:

  • Dress in layers.
  • Protect vulnerable individuals (children, elderly) from temperature changes.
  • Exercise caution when driving in the early morning due to potential dense fog.
  • Stay informed through official weather channels.
