Ciudad Juárez Achieves Historical Crime Reduction Through State Security Strategy
Ciudad Juárez, March 21, 2026 – Over four years into the current administration, the Chihuahua State Public Security Secretariat has positioned Ciudad Juárez as a central focus of its security strategy, achieving historical results in reducing crime rates and directly combating criminality.
According to official data, the State Police have arrested over 6,500 individuals in this border city for both common and federal crimes. This represents a significant blow against the criminal structures operating in the region, weakening their operational capacity and reducing their scope of action.
Key Achievements in Crime Reduction
As a result of these actions, Ciudad Juárez has recorded historical reductions in various crimes. Home invasion has decreased by 71 percent, extortion by 70 percent, and street drug dealing (narcomenudeo) by 62 percent. Additionally, robbery in its various forms shows a 20 percent decrease, reflecting a positive impact on the daily lives of the population and an improvement in the perception of security.
Gilberto Loya Chávez, head of the corporation, emphasized that these results stem from a comprehensive strategy based on intelligence, the use of technology, and a permanent presence in the field. This approach has allowed for more precise and effective actions against criminal elements.
Significant Seizures and Operational Impact
The security efforts have also led to substantial seizures of illicit goods. Authorities have recovered 528 stolen vehicles and impounded 757 vehicles linked to illegal activities. In terms of weaponry, a total of 738 firearms, including handguns and long guns, have been removed from the streets, along with over 28,000 live cartridges, 1,017 magazines, and 342 pieces of tactical equipment.
One of the most relevant advances has been in the fight against drug trafficking, with historical seizures including:
- 168 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine
- 38.5 kilograms of cocaine
- 1.6 tons of marijuana
- Over 2.8 million doses of fentanyl
These seizures represent a significant disruption to drug supply chains and the financial operations of criminal groups in the region.
The Role of Technology and Future Outlook
The implementation of the Centinela Platform has been crucial to these results. This technology facilitates the anticipation of criminal behavior, the targeting of operations, and the strengthening of response capabilities. The State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) reaffirms its commitment to continue building safer environments for families in Ciudad Juárez.
The historical decline in homicides, as highlighted by Gilberto Loya in earlier reports, projects Juárez out of the global ranking of the most violent cities, further solidifying the success of the implemented security measures.
The continuous efforts and integrated strategy are aimed at sustaining these positive trends, ensuring a more secure and peaceful future for the residents of Ciudad Juárez.
