Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, March 24, 2026 – The Directorate of Animal Care and Welfare (DABA) has officially opened the registration process for the 2026 Pet Food Bank, a crucial program designed to bolster the efforts of independent animal rescuers and shelters in Ciudad Juárez. This initiative specifically targets organizations and individuals caring for a significant number of animals in vulnerable situations.
Registration Details and Requirements
Alma Arredondo Salinas, head of DABA, announced that the registration period will be exceptionally brief, lasting only three days: March 23, 24, and 25. Interested parties are urged to visit the DABA facilities located on Tarzán Street, within El Chamizal, to complete the necessary paperwork promptly.
Key requirements for applicants include:
- Minimum of 30 animals under care: Applicants must demonstrate responsibility for at least 30 animals.
- Consistent promotion of responsible adoptions: A proven track record of facilitating responsible adoptions is essential.
Furthermore, to ensure broad coverage and support for those most in need, shelters currently receiving food assistance from any level of government are not eligible for this program. This criterion aims to extend the program’s reach to spaces operating without institutional backing.
Applicants must also agree to allow verification visits by DABA personnel. These visits will enable the department to assess the conditions of the shelter or rescue operation and facilitate the delivery of food supplies.

The 2026 Pet Food Bank seeks to enhance the operational capacity of rescuers who frequently face financial constraints in providing adequate nutrition for the animals under their care.
