Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua – The Ciudad Juárez City Council, in an extraordinary session held yesterday morning, recognized individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to environmental protection and sustainability by presenting the first-ever Ecological Merit Award. The ceremony aimed to highlight and reward the efforts of those actively working to improve the local environment.
First-Ever Ecological Merit Award Ceremony
The awards were distributed across several categories, with winners receiving a prize of ten thousand pesos each, with the exception of the business category. The initiative marks a significant step for Ciudad Juárez in promoting environmental awareness and action within the community.

- Environmental Innovation and Technology: Alondra Mena Sáenz
- Environmental Youth: Ana Gloria Prado Flores
- Environmental Childhood: José Armando Jurado Roman
- Environmental Education and Culture: Zaira Yerenia Castillo
- Green Community Action: Elizabeth Gabaldón Rojas
- Animal Welfare and Wildlife Protection: Gari Ciudad Juárez
- Sustainable Company or Business: Servicompactos De Juárez
Each individual winner received a monetary prize of ten thousand pesos, acknowledging their dedication and the tangible impact of their environmental initiatives.
Community Efforts Recognized
Councilwoman Fernanda Ávalos Medina, coordinator of the Ecology and Civil Protection Commission, emphasized the importance of recognizing community efforts in environmental matters. “The actions we recognize today will not only leave something for new generations, but they are already changing the present,” she stated, highlighting the immediate and long-term benefits of these environmental endeavors.
César Díaz Gutiérrez, the Director of Ecology, reported that a total of 38 nominations were submitted for the various categories, underscoring the widespread engagement and commitment to ecological causes within Ciudad Juárez.
This inaugural event sets a precedent for future recognitions, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and encouraging further participation from residents and businesses alike.
