A Legacy of Service: Nearly Five Decades of Life-Saving Efforts

Commander Juan Francisco González confirmed that the Rescue Department has consistently maintained a force of 50 members throughout its 49-year history. This includes 15 women and 35 men, operating 8 ambulances, with 4 ambulances deployed per shift to cover the city’s emergencies.

Daily Operations and Diverse Emergency Responses

The department’s daily calls are varied, ranging from medical emergencies and traffic accident injuries to pedestrian accidents. They also provide coverage for various public events. All emergency calls are channeled through the 911 system, which then dispatches the Rescue Department as needed.

“The majority are sick people, injuries from crashes are attended, injured by run over, events are also covered, the daily attention in emergencies is varied; it is through 911, the call comes in and the corporation of the Rescue Department attends when it is commissioned as such,” explained Commander González.

Recognition for Dedication and Training

To commemorate its 49th anniversary, the Rescue Department held a ceremony to acknowledge long-serving members and outstanding paramedics. These paramedics recently completed an emergency medical technician training program provided by the Red Cross. Additionally, companies that have supported the department over the years were also recognized for their contributions.

Strategic Deployment Across the Region

The department ensures comprehensive coverage across the city and its surrounding areas. Rescue ambulances are strategically located at the central station (Station 7), Station 8, and an additional ambulance is stationed in the town of Samalayuca, which is part of Ciudad Juárez.

The Human Element: Stress, Adrenaline, and Satisfaction

Working as a rescuer involves a unique blend of emotions and challenges. Commander González reflected on the personal impact of the job, highlighting the stress, adrenaline, and profound satisfaction that comes from saving lives.

“Speaking as a member, it does leave a satisfaction because emergencies are attended where life is at stake; there is a different situation in how an emergency is lived day by day as such, because it is stress, it is a world of emotions that you live, adrenaline, it goes down and up, there is a change as a person when you live it from this side,” expressed the Commander of the Rescue Department.

Demographics of the Rescue Team
