Ciudad Juarez, Mexico – June 16, 2026 – The municipal government celebrated the grand opening of the Parque Urbano Suroriente yesterday afternoon with an event that drew residents from the southeastern sector of the city. The new park, located at the intersection of Miguel de la Madrid and Ramón Rayón avenues, represents an investment exceeding 259 million pesos.
A Much-Needed Recreational Space for Over 400,000 Residents
According to the municipal government, the new park was developed on a plot of land that had remained unused since 2004. Its primary objective is to address the demand for recreational areas in the southeastern part of the city, home to more than 400,000 people. The comprehensive design of the park ensures a variety of activities for all ages.
The Parque Urbano Suroriente boasts an array of features, including an acoustic shell, a skate park, a soccer field, inclusive playgrounds, a dedicated pet area, picnic zones, barbecue grills, extensive green spaces, and ample parking. A standout attraction is a 14-meter-high slide, equipped with an elevator for accessibility. Municipal data indicates that over 2,500 people utilized the slide within its first few hours of operation, highlighting its immediate popularity.
Future Expansions and Community Impact
The project is not yet complete, with additional phases planned, such as the construction of a water treatment plant and an artificial lake. These future developments aim to further enhance the park’s amenities and environmental sustainability.
The inauguration event featured performances by the clowns Los Chicharrines and the musical group Sonora Skándalo, adding to the festive atmosphere. Access to the park will be free of charge, making it an accessible recreational hub for the entire community.
The park’s opening comes at a time when Ciudad Juarez is actively investing in public spaces. Related initiatives include efforts to protect the Sierra de Juárez by converting it into a protected area and ongoing discussions about public transport improvements, such as the BRT’s fourth trunk route. The municipal government also recently announced the reception of documents for University Access Scholarships, demonstrating a broader commitment to community welfare.
