Mexico City, December 21 – Clara Brugada Molina, the Head of Government of Mexico City, led the commemorative parade for Police Day 2025 this Sunday. The event, held on Paseo de la Reforma avenue in front of the Angel of Independence, served as a platform to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of the men and women of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) in addressing insecurity and emergencies across the capital.

Brugada Praises CDMX Police, Cites Significant Crime Reduction

During her address, the capital’s leader proudly declared that Mexico City boasts the best police force in the country. She emphasized the substantial progress made in security matters and the institutional strengthening of the police corporation.

“It is an honor for me to be present at this great parade… a big round of applause to all the police officers of the city. As we have always said: the best police force in the country is the police of this Mexico City,” Brugada stated, addressing the security personnel.

Crime Incidents Drop by 58% Since 2019, Says Brugada

Brugada affirmed that, thanks to the unwavering efforts of the security forces, criminal incidence in the capital has decreased by a remarkable 58 percent since 2019. Furthermore, she noted an additional 13 percent reduction compared to the previous year. She detailed that intentional homicide, one of the most impactful social crimes, has seen a 46 percent reduction compared to 2019 and a further 10 percent decrease so far in 2025.

Femicides Reduced, Fallen Officers Honored

In the realm of gender-based violence, Clara Brugada reported a 34 percent decrease in femicides compared to the previous year, a result she attributed to an increase in judicializations. She also paid tribute to the police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, stating, “We recognize those who offered their lives defending the city. They are an example and an inspiration.”

Police Force Strengthened with Salary Increases, Patrols, and Hospital

The Head of Government highlighted significant advancements in strengthening the police force, noting that since October 2024, over 7,000 decorations, 21,000 incentives, 4,500 promotions, and 11,700 rewards have been distributed to members of the corporation. She also announced further strengthening initiatives for the current year, including a salary increase, the integration of 3,500 new patrol cars (including specialized units for gender-based violence), 25 state-of-the-art ERUM ambulances, and the commencement of construction for the Police Hospital.

Security for the 2026 World Cup: A Key Challenge

Brugada Molina also revealed that a primary challenge for 2026 will be ensuring security during the FIFA World Cup, an event for which she assured the city is well-prepared. “We are ready to guarantee a safe World Cup… we will not neglect the issue of security for a single moment,” she emphasized.

SSC Reaffirms Commitment to Community Engagement and Results

Pablo Vázquez Camacho, the Secretary of Citizen Security, echoed Brugada’s sentiments, acknowledging the invaluable work of the police officers. He stated that 2025 has allowed for a stronger connection with the citizenry. “This year reaffirmed our conviction to serve with tangible results in reducing criminal incidence,” he noted, reiterating the commitment to consolidate the country’s best police force.
