MEXICO CITY, April 3, 2026 – The Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) has confirmed that the Ecobici Public Bicycle System is solidifying its role as a strategic pillar within the city’s Integrated Mobility Network. This integration aims to provide thousands of daily commuters in the capital with more efficient, accessible, and sustainable intermodal travel options, fostering a connected, modern, and user-centric transportation model.
Ecobici: A Key Link in Urban Mobility
Currently, 297 Ecobici docking stations are strategically located within 500 meters of mass and semi-mass transit stations. This proximity ensures direct connections with major transportation systems, including the Metro, Metrobús, Trolleybus, RTP, Suburban Train, and Zonal Services. This extensive articulation promotes seamless door-to-door mobility, significantly reducing travel times and enhancing the overall commuting experience for residents.
As part of Mexico City’s strategy for efficient and organized mobility, Ecobici serves as a crucial solution for the first and last mile of urban journeys. Data indicates that 67% of active users rely on the system for their commute to work or educational institutions, with average journey times ranging between 20 and 25 minutes.
High Demand and Operational Efficiency
During peak hours, specifically from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the Ecobici system records up to 25,000 daily trips. Areas with high intermodal connectivity, such as Buenavista, Chapultepec, Insurgentes, Sevilla, and Juárez, experience particularly high usage, underscoring Ecobici’s essential contribution to daily urban mobility.
The integration of Ecobici with the Integrated Mobility (MI) Card allows users to access various transport systems using a single payment method. This initiative strengthens interoperability and modernizes public transportation services across the city.
Furthermore, Ecobici docking stations are equipped with integrated RFID technology, streamlining access and eliminating unnecessary processes. The dedicated mobile application enhances user experience by providing real-time availability, trip registration, fault reporting, and route planning, ensuring a more agile, secure, and efficient service.
Exceeding International Standards and Environmental Impact
Ecobici boasts an impressive average usage rate of 10 times a day, surpassing international standards for similar public bicycle systems. To ensure continuous service, the system employs strategic rebalancing and real-time monitoring, maintaining an availability rate close to 94% during periods of high demand.
This robust integration not only improves the travel experience for users but also plays a vital role in decongesting public transport, reducing overall travel times, and significantly decreasing pollutant emissions. Since 2022, the Ecobici system has prevented the emission of over 3,200 tons of CO₂, an environmental benefit equivalent to planting more than 157,000 urban trees.
Future Vision for a Sustainable City
The successful integration of Ecobici with the Integrated Mobility Network reaffirms the commitment of the Government of Mexico City and the Secretariat of Mobility to build a connected, inclusive, and people-centric transportation system. In this vision, the bicycle occupies a key position as a daily mode of transport.
With plans for expansion into new boroughs and increased densification in high-demand areas, Ecobici is set to further strengthen its role as a strategic ally of public transport, contributing to a cleaner, more efficient, and more humane city.
