Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – In a historic move coinciding with the commemoration of March 8th, details for the country’s first-ever ‘Rodeo Femenil’ (Women’s Rodeo), entirely organized and created by women, were announced today. The event, dubbed ‘Iron Woman Challenge,’ promises to be a significant cultural, artistic, and sporting spectacle.

Iron Woman Challenge: A Pioneer Event

The groundbreaking charro event is scheduled for Saturday, March 7th, with doors opening to the public at 2:00 PM at the Adolfo López Mateos Lienzo Charro. More than 40 female participants, ranging in age from 5 years old and up, will demonstrate their prowess in various traditional charro ‘suertes’ (events). These include bull riding, breakaway roping, goat tying, pole bending, steer wrestling, flag racing, and roping.

Categories and Awards

The competition will feature multiple categories, catering to different age groups and skill levels: infant, youth, and open. A total of 24 buckles will be awarded across these various events. A special ‘All Around’ buckle will be presented to the overall champion, as explained by Raquel Flores, president of the Mexican Association of Rodeo Ethnicities.

Promoting Women in Charro Sports

The organizers expressed their excitement and pride in bringing this event to fruition. “For us as organizers, it’s a dream come true, as being able to hold it allows us to uplift women who work and do so much for a sporting, objective, and conscious society,” stated one of the organizers. The ‘Iron Woman Challenge’ aims to challenge traditional perceptions of rodeo as a male-dominated sport and highlight the talent and dedication of female charro athletes.

The event is open to the general public, with an admission fee of 120 pesos. Children under 6 years old will be granted free entry. The organizers are hopeful for a successful turnout and aim to make this an ongoing activity, showcasing the vibrant community of female charras in Mexico.

Beyond the Arena: Festivities and Community Support

Following the charro demonstrations, attendees are invited to enjoy a festive ‘plazuela’ (square) event, which will commence at 9:00 PM and continue until 1:00 AM. This post-rodeo celebration will offer a variety of food, desserts, beverages, and accessories for sale. The proceeds from these sales will be dedicated to fundraising efforts for the more than 16 ethnic groups that will be present at the event.

Distinguished Guests and Support

The event will be graced by the presence of several notable figures, underscoring its significance and community support. Among the attendees will be Alma Arredondo, head of the Directorate of Animal Care and Welfare (DABA); Karla Michell Escalante, a city councilor; María Adame; Rocío Sáenz from the Civil Association Renace; and Aimé O’Farril from the Municipal Sports Institute.

For more information, the public is encouraged to consult the official pages of the Municipality, the Sports Institute, the Directorate of Animal Welfare, and the Mexican Association of Rodeo Ethnicities.
