Chihuahua, Chih. – Five members of the National Guard assigned to Abraham González International Airport in Ciudad Juárez have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and extortion. They are scheduled to appear in an initial hearing for their legal status this Tuesday and Wednesday, July 7th and 8th.

The arrested individuals are identified as Fernando P. R., 34 years old; Horacio De la. C. S., 24; Alfredo G.C., 31; Sergeant First Class Jesús Gerardo R. A., 43; and Jonathan de Jesús O. V.

According to reports, the National Guard agents detained two passengers arriving from Mexico City, demanding sums of 15,000 and 3,000 pesos in exchange for their release from the airport. These separate incidents took place on July 2nd and 3rd.
Based on criminal cases 439/2026 and 443/2026, and investigation file 1407/26, opened by the Attorney General of the Republic, on July 2nd, four national agents detained a passenger for more than 20 minutes. They confiscated his cell phone, called his family, and demanded a payment of 15,000 pesos. This money was subsequently transferred to the bank account of one of the agents’ wives.
On July 3rd, another National Guard agent, Jonathan de Jesús O. V., was observed by the airport administrator demanding 3,000 pesos from a person arriving from Tapachula, Chiapas. The payment was allegedly in exchange for allowing the individual to board a taxi and leave the airport premises.
