Mexico City, December 12 – A foreign national has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a business owner in the Iztacalco borough of Mexico City. The incident reportedly occurred after the individual, who was seeking employment, became enraged over the proposed salary.
Incident in Santiago Sur, Iztacalco
According to initial reports, the events unfolded in the Barrio Santiago Sur neighborhood. Elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) were alerted by the C2 Norte surveillance center regarding an assault in the vicinity. Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Playa Roqueta and Playa Miramar.
Upon arrival, a 47-year-old male business owner informed authorities that he had been attacked by an individual who had just applied for a job at his establishment. The victim stated that after failing to reach an agreement on a salary, the suspect allegedly grabbed a knife from the business and assaulted him.

The victim further reported that following the assault, the suspect stole cash, representing the day’s sales, before fleeing the scene. Authorities quickly initiated a search based on the description provided by the victim.
A 33-year-old foreign national was located a few blocks away. A preventive search was conducted, during which the stolen cash was recovered, and a bladed weapon, approximately 30 centimeters long, was seized. The suspect identified himself as a Haitian national.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The police proceeded to arrest the individual. He was read his constitutional rights and, along with the recovered items, was transferred to the corresponding Public Ministry agent. The Public Ministry will now determine the suspect’s legal situation.
This incident highlights the potential for conflict in employment negotiations, though the alleged use of violence and theft represents a severe escalation. Authorities continue their investigation into the matter.
