Mexico City, September 13 – The Green Party in Mexico City has thrown its support behind an initiative presented by its parliamentary group in the capital’s Congress. The proposed reform aims to strengthen the protection of human trafficking victims, with the party asserting that it will enhance institutional responses to a crime that severely violates human rights.

Green Party Leader Emphasizes Comprehensive Approach

Jesús Sesma Suárez, leader of the Green Party in the capital, stated that the proposal seeks to consolidate the legal framework to expand protection guarantees, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve the actions of authorities responsible for investigating and combating this crime. He explained that the reform intends to establish more robust legal foundations to address the various forms of human trafficking, prioritizing the dignity and rights of victims as the central focus of institutional action.

Sesma Suárez warned that this crime primarily affects women, girls, boys, adolescents, migrants, and other vulnerable groups. He therefore stressed the importance of continuously refining legal and institutional tools to prevent more individuals from falling victim to exploitation. He also highlighted that the initiative aims to bolster the capabilities of institutions responsible for preventing, investigating, and punishing trafficking, in addition to ensuring comprehensive care and protection for those affected by this crime.

Commitment to Eradicating Exploitation

The environmentalist leader maintained that no form of exploitation should be normalized or tolerated, affirming that the fight against human trafficking must remain a priority on Mexico City’s public agenda. He also recalled that Mexico has national and international commitments to prevent and eradicate this crime, which necessitates continuous updates to the legal framework and the strengthening of institutional capacities to confront its various modalities.

Finally, he affirmed that the promotion of this reform reaffirms the Green Party’s commitment to continue promoting legislative actions aimed at protecting the dignity and rights of individuals against any form of exploitation.

The initiative underscores the ongoing efforts to address a complex issue that requires a multi-faceted approach, encompassing legal, social, and institutional dimensions. The focus on vulnerable populations and the commitment to international standards reflect a comprehensive strategy to combat human trafficking effectively.

The reform is expected to be a significant step towards a more robust and victim-centered response to human trafficking in Mexico City, aligning local efforts with broader national and international objectives.
