Intensified Cleaning and Maintenance Efforts in Ciudad Juarez Historic Center

Ciudad Juarez, April 26, 2026 – The Directorate of Public Cleaning has intensified its cleaning and maintenance work in the Historic Center of Ciudad Juarez. These actions are part of a permanent program aimed at preserving urban infrastructure and providing a clean, safe, and attractive environment for both citizens and visitors.

Gibran Solís Kanahan, head of the department, stated that current efforts include repainting waste containers primarily located along Avenida Juarez, one of the most frequented thoroughfares in the city’s downtown area. Additionally, refurbishment work is being carried out on the monumental “Juárez” letters, particularly on their rear sections, to ensure this iconic landmark remains in excellent condition for residents and tourists alike.

Program for a Dignified Space

Solís Kanahan explained that these tasks are integral to a preventive program designed not only to maintain urban infrastructure but also to foster a clean, secure, and appealing environment for the community. He highlighted that approximately 60 waste containers are currently distributed throughout the Central Zone, covering major avenues such as Juárez, 16 de Septiembre, and Vicente Guerrero, as well as streets like Mariscal and Velarde.

These containers are equipped with special gates designed to prevent waste dispersion, mitigate unpleasant odors, and curb the proliferation of insects. Solís Kanahan urged the public to use these waste receptacles correctly, emphasizing that proper usage contributes significantly to keeping public areas clean and enhancing the city’s overall image.

Strengthening the Historic Center

The Director of Public Cleaning underscored that these initiatives strengthen the conditions of the Historic Center, solidifying its status as a dignified space for community interaction, tourism, and daily activities. The objective is to maintain this emblematic area in optimal conditions for both residents and visitors, ensuring it remains a vibrant and welcoming part of Ciudad Juarez.

The city’s commitment to urban cleanliness extends beyond the Historic Center. Recent efforts have included maintenance work in Las Arcadas Park to improve community surroundings, urban cleaning interventions in Santa Isabel and Horizontes del Sur neighborhoods, and ongoing work by cleaning crews on city roadways, for which drivers are asked to exercise caution.

Further community engagement includes the rescue of a park in the López Mateos neighborhood through cleaning and reforestation by the Youth Force of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico, which planted 35 trees. These collective efforts demonstrate a comprehensive approach to maintaining and enhancing public spaces across Ciudad Juarez.
