Ciudad Juárez, Chih. – The Municipal Water and Sanitation Board (JMAS) announced on Saturday, November 7, 2026, that it has begun the gradual restoration of potable water service to five neighborhoods in the southeastern part of Ciudad Juárez. This follows the successful completion of emergency repairs to a major pipeline that had left approximately 5,000 families without water.

Extensive Repair Operations

The incident originated on the night of Friday, November 6, when a rupture occurred in a 16-inch diameter pipeline at the intersection of Avenida Miguel de la Madrid and Bulevar Manuel Talamás Camandari. To facilitate repairs, JMAS was forced to temporarily suspend the operation of wells 216, 217, and 218, which are integral to the local distribution system.

Operational crews worked for 14 consecutive hours to address the damage. Paola Moreno, Director of Operations at JMAS, confirmed that the repair of the 16-inch line was finalized on Saturday morning, allowing the utility to begin reactivating the affected wells.

Affected Areas

The suspension of service impacted residents in the following neighborhoods:

  • Terranova
  • Las Almeras
  • Los Arcos
  • Hacienda de las Torres Universidad
  • Rincones de Salvárcar

Gradual Return of Service

While the physical repair of the pipe is complete, officials emphasized that the return of water pressure will be gradual. The distribution network requires time to stabilize after being drained during the maintenance work. Residents may see water service return at different times depending on the pressure levels in their specific sectors as the system re-pressurizes.

JMAS has expressed its gratitude to the residents for their patience during the temporary outage and commended the field crews for their efforts in completing the complex repair within 14 hours.
