Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – Ciudad Juárez has been chosen as one of 300 cities worldwide to participate in the Youth and Climate Action Fund. This global initiative encourages young people aged 15 to 24 to propose projects that will transform urban parks, public gardens, and neighborhood spaces into hubs for community integration and climate action through nature-based solutions.
Global Initiative, Local Impact: Transforming Urban Parks
Brisa Vazaldúa, acting head of the Project Administration and Control Coordination, announced during a press conference that the primary goal of this initiative is to convert the city’s urban parks into cool, sustainable microclimates, thereby enhancing both climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
The call for proposals stipulates that projects must be led by at least two young individuals. Successful applicants will receive funding ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 USD. Each proposal is required to clearly define a specific product, an expected outcome, and a numerical target for both.
Application Details and Project Implementation
The application period for this fund is currently open and will close on October 15th. Interested young individuals can register their projects through the official municipal website: www.juarez.gob.mx. The fund aims to support between 8 and 10 applications. The implementation phase of these selected projects is scheduled to conclude by April 22, 2027.
The mayor of Ciudad Juárez emphasized the significance of the city’s inclusion in this global initiative. “Ciudad Juárez has been selected for this call, which involves 300 cities. These projects will truly materialize in 2027 to conclude this program. Therefore, we invite young people who wish to participate, who have an idea of how to improve climate change, to provide a different vision from the government, and to allow citizen proposals to show us how to address our parks,” the mayor stated.
This initiative represents a significant opportunity for the youth of Ciudad Juárez to actively contribute to environmental sustainability and community development, fostering a greener and more resilient urban environment for all residents.
