CIUDAD JUÁREZ, Chih. – A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Ciudad Juarez following a disturbing incident in which he allegedly burned two dogs. The Dirección de Atención y Bienestar Animal (DABA) received a call from the Centro de Emergencia y Respuesta Inmediata (CERI) regarding the animal cruelty report.

Details of the Incident in Morelos Neighborhood

Alma Arredondo Salinas, head of DABA, confirmed that the events unfolded in the Morelos neighborhood. The arrested individual, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time, is accused of entering a neighbor’s patio, removing two dogs, setting fire to mattresses, and placing the animals on top of them.

“This person burned two puppies; he entered his neighbors’ patio, took them out, set fire to some mattresses, and placed the animals on top of them,” Salinas detailed.

According to Salinas, the dogs attempted to escape the flames by instinctively seeking refuge in a puddle of water. The man was subsequently detained by agents from the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública Municipal (SSPM).

Prior Acts of Animal Aggression Reported

Neighbors informed authorities that this was not an isolated incident, stating that the arrested individual had previously attempted to harm another dog by trying to poke its eyes. This history of aggression towards animals has further fueled public outrage and concern within the community.

Legal Follow-Up and Owner’s Ratification

DABA announced that it will closely follow the case in conjunction with the Delitos Contra La Paz unit of the Fiscalía General del Estado. The owners of the two dogs are also expected to formally ratify the facts of the incident, which will be crucial for the legal proceedings.

Community Reaction and Animal Welfare Concerns

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from animal welfare advocates and the local community, highlighting the ongoing challenges of animal cruelty in the region. Organizations are calling for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws and greater public awareness regarding responsible pet ownership and reporting of abuse.

This case underscores the importance of prompt reporting of animal cruelty and the collaborative efforts between emergency services, animal welfare agencies, and law enforcement to address such heinous acts. The community awaits further developments in the investigation and hopes for justice for the affected animals.
