Violence once again erupted in the streets of Ciudad Juarez on Thursday afternoon, December 12, 2024, even in one of the city’s most heavily guarded areas. A man was executed in the parking lot of a shopping plaza, triggering widespread panic.

Man Assassinated in Shopping Plaza Parking Lot

Minutes after 2 PM, a series of gunshots alarmed customers, workers, and visitors at a shopping plaza located on Ejército Nacional Avenue, in the heart of the city’s upscale ‘golden zone,’ known for being the most heavily monitored area in Ciudad Juarez. The attack occurred near a staircase, just meters from the parking lot, where the man was fatally shot.

His body was found next to his truck, which was immediately secured by authorities and placed under review as part of the initial investigations by the Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office. The response from law enforcement was swift. Officers from the Municipal Police, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard arrived at the plaza and, as a security measure, prevented anyone inside the stores from leaving. Dozens of customers remained sheltered within the plaza’s establishments as the area was cordoned off, and an operation was launched to locate the perpetrators of the attack.

The atmosphere in the plaza grew tense: businesses partially lowered their shutters, employees took cover, and the corridors became virtually empty as uniformed personnel took control of the crime scene.

Increasing Violence in Ciudad Juarez

This incident adds to the escalating wave of violence gripping Ciudad Juarez. In the first days of December alone, including this case, 16 people have been executed, reflecting a month marked by direct attacks and constant operations across various parts of the city. Authorities continue to examine the scene and the victim’s vehicle, while the security deployment remains active in the area.
