Marathon Rover 2026 to Connect Mexico City and Cuernavaca with 31 and 42 Kilometer Routes
Mexico City, July 29, 2026 – The 2026 edition of the Marathon Rover Mexico-Cuernavaca was announced yesterday, July 29, by Daniel Altafi Valladares, Secretary of Tourism for Morelos. Scheduled for October 10, 2026, the event aims to strengthen sports tourism in the region through one of the country’s most traditional X-Trail mountain races.
The presentation also featured Javier Jesús Peralta Pérez, General Director of the Mexico City Sports Institute (INDEPORTE); Juan Felipe Domínguez Robles, General Director of the Morelos State Sports and Physical Culture Institute (INDEM); and Pedro Fletes, Organizing Director of the Marathon Rover.
Marathon Rover 2026 to Traverse Trails and Mountains Between Mexico City and Morelos
The competition, which has been held since 1955, will connect Mexico City with Cuernavaca, traversing trails, mountains, and forests. The starting point will be the Monumento al Caminero in the Tlalpan borough, at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level.
The event will feature two distances: a 31-kilometer race, concluding in Tres Marías, and the full 42-kilometer marathon, which will finish at the Estadio Centenario in Cuernavaca. The highest point of the route will be the El Pelado Volcano, located at 3,460 meters above sea level.
Competition to Feature Age Categories and Awards for Participants
The Marathon Rover 2026 will include categories such as Open, Master, Veterans, and Plus, in addition to a special category for Scouts up to 23 years of age. First-place finishers will receive trophies and medals.

- Aid stations along the route
- Access to the awards ceremony
The organizers highlighted that the race is considered by the athletic community to be one of the most demanding endurance tests in the country due to its high-altitude ascents.
