Maria Adela Morales Disappears for Second Time in Mexico City: Psychiatric Hospital Discharges Her Without Family Notification

Mexico City, May 2, 2026 – The case of Maria Adela Morales Correa, a 26-year-old architect originally from Chetumal, has again raised alarms after she was discharged from the psychiatric hospital where she was interned in Mexico City, without her family being notified. Since then, her whereabouts are once again unknown.

Her story first came to light on April 23, when her family reported that the young woman had traveled to the capital weeks earlier for a job offer. However, shortly after, they lost contact with her via WhatsApp. After several days of searching, they finally located her at the National Institute of Psychiatry.

How Did Maria Adela Morales Disappear for the Second Time?

According to her relatives, the young woman was discharged from the National Institute of Psychiatry Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz on Thursday, April 30, at midday. At that time, her mother, Cristina Ramírez Tapia, was carrying out legal procedures to obtain access to her daughter’s medical information and to be able to see her.

The family reported that the institute’s staff did not inform them about Maria Adela’s departure, despite an ongoing legal injunction related to the case. This situation increased their uncertainty, as they do not know who took her or where she went.

“All we want is for her to come home. We don’t know her whereabouts,” a relative of the young woman told the media.

Adela Arrived in Mexico City for Work and Ended Up in a Psychiatric Hospital

Maria Adela was reported missing on April 9. Weeks earlier, on January 27, she had traveled to the capital for a job opportunity. According to her mother, before losing contact with her, the young woman told her that she felt uncomfortable with the people she was living with.

After searching on their own, the family managed to find her at the psychiatric hospital, where she allegedly entered due to a depressive crisis. However, since then, her mother has pointed out several irregularities on the part of the institute.

Among them, she mentioned that two unknown women-identified as Georgina and Andrea-who had been with Maria Adela in the city, were allowed entry. The family questions who they really are and what relationship they had with the young woman.

They also claim that these individuals had access to Maria Adela inside the hospital, even with more ease than her own mother. During one of the visits, Cristina Ramírez stated that she found her daughter confused, scared, and visibly affected.

The institute reported on April 29 that the young woman was admitted voluntarily and that communication with her family depended on her authorization. Even so, the mother filed an injunction to know her diagnosis and to allow independent specialists to review her case. The National Institute of Psychiatry stated in a communiqué that it would not disclose Maria Adela’s clinical details.

Mother Accuses Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office of Omission

Maria Adela’s mother accused the Mexico City Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Disappeared Persons (FIPEDE) of not providing sufficient support and even hindering the complaint.

Now, after Maria Adela’s discharge from the hospital, there is no information about her location or who is responsible for her custody. Therefore, the family is asking for help to locate her, as they do not rule out a possible kidnapping or human trafficking case.
