CIUDAD JUAREZ, CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO – In a significant operation, Mexican military and state police forces have confiscated nearly a ton of illicit drugs at the Precos checkpoint in Samalayuca, Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. The operation led to the arrest of Javier L. J., 54, who was allegedly transporting the narcotics in a tractor-trailer.

Joint Operation Leads to Major Seizure

The seizure was a result of a collaborative effort between the Mexican Army and the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE). According to official reports, the intervention took place at the Precos revision point, a routine inspection area. During a standard check, military personnel identified an illegal cargo within a tractor-trailer bearing Mexico State license plates, prompting the immediate detention of the driver.

Authorities subsequently requested support from the State Police to ensure all necessary protocols were followed during the inspection and processing of the seized materials. The swift and coordinated action of both agencies was crucial in successfully intercepting the large shipment of narcotics.

Drugs Hidden in Metal Drums

Further inspection of the vehicle revealed a sophisticated concealment method. A total of 31 metal drums, each with a capacity of 200 liters, were found inside the tractor-trailer. These drums contained a substantial quantity of illegal substances, meticulously packaged to evade detection.

The confiscated drugs included:

  • Marijuana: 95 packages totaling 966.2 kilograms.
  • Crystal Methamphetamine: 30.4 kilograms.
  • Opium Gum (presumed): 10.8 kilograms.

This substantial haul underscores the ongoing efforts by Mexican authorities to combat drug trafficking and dismantle criminal networks operating within the region.

Driver Arrested with Weapon and Ammunition

In addition to the drug seizure, the arrested driver, Javier L. J., was found in possession of a .40 mm caliber handgun, two magazines, and 27 live cartridges. The presence of a firearm further solidified the charges against the suspect, leading to his immediate transfer to the competent authorities.

Following his formal detention, Javier L. J. was placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry. He will now face further investigation and legal proceedings to determine his role in the drug trafficking operation and to identify any potential accomplices or connections to larger criminal organizations.

Ongoing Battle Against Drug Trafficking

This incident highlights the persistent challenges faced by Mexican authorities in their fight against drug trafficking. Ciudad Juarez, located on the border with the United States, remains a critical corridor for the movement of illicit substances, making such checkpoints vital in interdiction efforts.

The successful operation at the Precos checkpoint demonstrates the effectiveness of routine inspections and the importance of inter-agency cooperation in disrupting the flow of narcotics. Authorities continue to monitor and enhance security measures at key transit points to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details may emerge as the case progresses through the legal system. The focus remains on identifying the source and intended destination of the drugs, as well as any broader criminal networks involved.
