Mexico City, July 30 – Following a four-hour meeting with residents and victims of property dispossession from six boroughs, Mexico City authorities have committed to the restitution of properties, the review of at least 61 new cases registered this Wednesday, and the dismantling of networks committing this crime in the city. Operations were carried out yesterday by agents of the FGJ and capital police to recover stolen properties, with images from the Guerrero neighborhood.
Authorities Respond to Victims’ Demands
During the meeting at the headquarters of the Investigative Police, victims also called for the restructuring of the anti-dispossession cabinet, which they claimed has not yielded results a year after its implementation. They further requested the incorporation of the Citizen Security Secretariat and the Public Registry of Property and Commerce into this body.
The Attorney General’s Office reported receiving 81 individuals, registering 61 new cases of dispossession and 20 for other crimes. They also committed to working with the Internal Affairs Directorate to review cases where public servants are suspected of involvement.
Present at the meeting were Prosecutor Bertha Alcalde and Government Secretary César Cravioto, who noted 300 successful property restitutions. However, those affected considered this figure low given the scale of the problem.
Among the requests made was the arrest of Virginia Vázquez García, alleged responsible for the dispossession of a property on Matías Romero Street, Del Valle neighborhood, as well as the judicialization of all existing files within the anti-dispossession cabinet.
At the end of the meeting, Alicia Camps, a member of the Del Valle neighborhood residents’ group, expressed confidence in the protocols and the establishment of monthly working groups to review progress.
Attorney Arturo Santana, son of Mrs. Carlota, who killed two dispossessors in the State of Mexico, joined the defense of the neighbors and victims. He stated that authorities promised a greater presence in high-risk areas for this crime, though they refrained from specifying which areas.
One of the cases presented was the dispossession of a house belonging to muralist Jorge González Camarena, which has been invaded for nine weeks.
The affected parties also proposed promoting a law to expedite property restitution and strengthen the legal framework against this crime, similar to measures taken in the State of Mexico.
Operations Underway to Recover Dispossessed Properties
Elements of the PDI, SSC, and personnel from the Government Secretariat implemented five operations yesterday morning in the Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuauhtémoc, and Iztapalapa boroughs to secure an equal number of allegedly dispossessed properties, according to ministerial sources.
These operations are part of immediate actions to address this offense in cases that already had significant progress.
The first operation took place at Galeana 20, Guerrero neighborhood, in Cuauhtémoc, where a woman was allowed to take her dog out before the property was secured and sealed.
The second was on Cuauhtémoc Avenue 1146, Benito Juárez borough, where two individuals were guarding the property but were not detained.
Another operation was carried out in the Coyoacán borough, where a property was secured early Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into an alleged violent dispossession that occurred in December 2025.
The lawyer for the case, Leonel Rodríguez, stated that the securing was part of a file handled by the Prosecutor’s Office for the Crime of Dispossession and Property Recovery.
He referred that one of the lines of investigation points to the involvement of a criminal cell dedicated to property dispossession, although he said authorities would have to specify what type of network was involved, and who carried out a double sale of the property, allegedly by a notary and his romantic partner.
