Mexico City, February 19 – The Mexico City Congress and the National College of Engineers and Architects of Mexico (CNIAM) have formalized a Collaboration Agreement to enhance legislative efforts in critical areas such as infrastructure, sustainable urban development and construction, and territorial planning. The signing ceremony took place yesterday at the “Heberto Castillo” Hall of the Donceles Legislative Precinct.

Boosting Legislative Work with Expert Knowledge

Deputy Jesús Sesma Suárez emphasized that this agreement will facilitate joint initiatives in training, specialized technical advice, and the creation of studies, analyses, and normative proposals. These efforts are expected to significantly contribute to the comprehensive development of Mexico City. He highlighted that this institutional coordination would enable the capital’s Congress to deliver modern, functional, and harmonious proposals that also consider environmental aspects, aiming to create more inclusive spaces for society.

“Today we celebrate the signing of this agreement, which represents the construction of a strategic alliance between illustrative work and specialized knowledge; its contribution supports the General Development Plan (PGD),” stated Sesma Suárez, in his capacity as President of the Board of Directors of the Mexico City Congress.

Deputy Omar Alejandro García Loria, President of the Commission on Housing Units and Condominium Regimes, added that this specialized support instrument would be instrumental in redefining legislative tools concerning housing. He specifically noted its importance in technical matters, such as assessing the structural condition of residential units, underscoring the agreement’s relevance.

Commitment to a Resilient, Safe, and Sustainable City

Luis Manuel Ortiz Acosta, President of the Board of Directors of the Illustrious National College of Engineers and Architects of Mexico, stressed the profound significance of the agreement. He articulated that the collaboration would transform ideas into concrete decisions, leading to improvements in the infrastructure, heritage, and overall quality of life for the capital’s inhabitants. Ortiz Acosta reiterated CNIAM’s commitment to providing specialized knowledge and professional expertise to aid in the construction of a more resilient, safe, and sustainable city.

The Collaboration Agreement outlines a series of activities, including forums, workshops, seminars, and academic events. These are designed to enrich public debate and inform the design of policies that ensure safe, sustainable, and socially conscious public works. Furthermore, the agreement aims to encourage the participation of engineering and architecture experts in the review and development processes of legislative initiatives.

Key Attendees at the Signing Ceremony

The event saw the attendance of several prominent figures, including deputies Xóchitl Bravo Espinosa, Manuel Talayero Pariente, and Alejandro Carbajal González, who coordinate the parliamentary groups of MORENA, the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), and the Progressive Parliamentary Association of Transformation (APPT), respectively. Also present were Deputy Pablo Trejo Pérez, Vice-coordinator of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) caucus, and José Manuel Díaz, Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Illustrious National College of Engineers and Architects of Mexico.

This collaboration underscores a concerted effort to integrate expert knowledge into the legislative process, promising a more informed and effective approach to urban development and infrastructure planning in Mexico City.
