Mexico City, February 27 – The Tourism Commission of the Mexico City Congress has approved the dictamen identifying nine individuals who will be honored with the “Tourism Merit Medal: Tourist Ambassador of Mexico City.” This prestigious award acknowledges their exceptional contributions to bolstering the city’s tourism industry. The medals will be presented during a solemn session at the Donceles Legislative Precinct.
Commission Highlights Importance of Tourism
During the Sixth Ordinary Session of the commission, held virtually this Friday, Deputy Luisa Fernanda Ledesma Alpízar emphasized that this award represents one of the highest recognitions granted by the Mexico City Congress. It celebrates individuals who have notably contributed to promoting and strengthening tourism as a strategic activity for the nation’s capital.
“This dictamen is the result of a serious, responsible, and deeply reflective exercise on the value that tourism holds for our city,” stated the Commission’s President.
Rigorous Selection Process for Honorees
Deputy Ledesma Alpízar, also a member of the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) Parliamentary Group, explained that the final list of honorees was derived from a thorough analysis of 19 nominations received by the Tourism Commission within the established period. These nominations spanned six distinct categories.
The evaluation of each candidate’s dossier focused on their trajectory, impact, social reach, sustainability, innovation, and overall contribution to tourism in Mexico City.
Distinguished Recipients Across Diverse Categories
According to the dictamen, which will be presented to the Legislative Plenary in due course, the nine individuals slated to receive this esteemed medal are:
- Promotion of Tourism through Art, Culture, and Gastronomy: Perla Labarthe Álvarez and Roberto Shimizu Kinoshita
- Promotion of Tourism through Sports and Entertainment: Víctor González Herrera
- Promotion of Tourism through Tourism Enterprises: Isabel Liliana Anaya Tapía and Luis Juan Alvarado Retana
- Promotion of Ecological and Sustainable Tourism: Francisco Ayala Gabilondo
- Promotion of Mexico City’s Tourist, Architectural, and Historical Heritage: María Teresa Moya Malfavón and María Bustamante Harfush
- Promotion of Social and Rural Tourism: María Julima Cardona Labarthe
“Colibrí Viajero” Program Also Recognized
In addition to the individual awards, the session also approved a special recognition for the “Colibrí Viajero” (Traveling Hummingbird) Program. This public policy of social inclusion has enabled seniors, people with disabilities, children, and vulnerable sectors to explore and appreciate Mexico City’s rich cultural, historical, and natural heritage.
