MEXICO CITY, March 12 – The Mexico City Congress has unanimously approved a significant restructuring of its internal administrative areas, aiming to optimize internal operations. The agreement, proposed by the Political Coordination Board (JUCOPO), was ratified during a regular session on Wednesday.
Key Changes in the Organizational Structure
A central element of this restructuring is the merger of the Social Communication Coordination Unit with the Congress Channel. This consolidation will lead to the creation of three new general directorates:
- General Directorate of Social Communication
- General Directorate of Production and Operation
- General Directorate of Digital Strategy and Platforms
This strategic move is expected to streamline communication efforts and enhance the reach and effectiveness of the legislative body’s public outreach.
Other Affected Administrative Areas
Beyond the communication departments, several other administrative units will also undergo modifications. These include:
- The General Directorate of General Services
- The Institute of Legislative Research (IIL)
- The Public Finance Studies Unit
- The Legislative Center for Gender Equality (CELIG)
- The Legislative Planning Institute
These adjustments are designed to improve efficiency and coordination across various legislative support functions.
Unanimous Support from Legislators
The decision to implement these changes received unanimous support from all capital legislators. This broad consensus underscores a shared commitment to modernizing and improving the internal workings of the Mexico City Congress.
Following the vote, the JUCOPO agreement has been forwarded to the Board of Directors and the administrative units of the local Legislative Power for the necessary parliamentary and legislative legal actions.
Context of the Reform
This reform comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the functionality and transparency of the Mexico City Congress. By adapting its organizational structure, the legislative body aims to better serve the public and more effectively carry out its legislative duties.
The integration of the Social Communication Coordination Unit with the Congress Channel is particularly notable, reflecting a trend towards more integrated and digitally-focused communication strategies within governmental institutions. This will likely lead to more cohesive messaging and a broader dissemination of legislative activities and decisions to the citizens of Mexico City.
The changes are expected to be implemented in the coming weeks, with a focus on ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining continuity of services.
