Mexico City is bracing for a significant economic injection from the traditional Three Kings’ Day celebrations, with an estimated 5,541 million pesos (approximately $325.9 million USD) expected to circulate. This economic surge is primarily fueled by purchases of toys, electronic items, clothing, sweets, bicycles, family gatherings, and the iconic Rosca de Reyes.

Economic Projections Highlight Robust Consumer Spending

The Confederation of Mexican Employers (Coparmex CDMX) provided this optimistic forecast, emphasizing the substantial impact of the holiday on local businesses and families. Adal Ortiz Ávalos, president of Coparmex CDMX, stated, “Three Kings’ Day celebrations drive a dynamism that directly strengthens thousands of working families and entrepreneurs. This season reminds us that economic activity also has a profound impact on social cohesion and the joy in our homes.”

Complementing Coparmex’s outlook, the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mexico City (Canaco CDMX) projects an economic contribution of 4,145 million pesos, marking a 5.3% growth compared to 2025. While the figures from the two organizations differ due to varying methodologies and sectors considered, both concur on the robust economic activity expected during this period.

Key Sectors Benefiting from the Festivities

Coparmex estimates that 13,419 economic units will directly benefit from the celebrations. These include a diverse range of businesses such as toy stores, department stores, shopping centers, bakeries, and establishments specializing in children’s products. This economic movement is also expected to have a direct positive impact on employment, benefiting over 133,000 workers across the city.

Canaco CDMX’s projections indicate an average expenditure of 2,508 pesos per child. Among the most sought-after items are drones, video game consoles, mobile phones, bicycles, and scooters. Traditional toys like dolls and construction sets also remain popular. The city’s 3,722 bakeries are anticipated to be busy preparing the traditional Rosca de Reyes, a sweet bread consumed during the celebration.

Call for Responsible Shopping and Local Support

Both Coparmex and Canaco have urged consumers to plan their purchases in advance and to buy from formal establishments. This approach aims to ensure product quality and to support the local economy. “It is time to boost our businesses with more innovation, more investment, and more financial intelligence. Competitiveness and economic growth must go hand in hand with a model that leaves no one behind,” added Ortiz.

The economic activity surrounding Three Kings’ Day underscores its cultural and financial significance in Mexico City, providing a vital boost to various sectors and contributing to the overall well-being of its residents.
