Mexico City Launches AI-Powered WhatsApp Tourist Chatbot ‘Xoli’ for World Cup 2026

Mexico City, March 26 – Clara Brugada, Head of Government of Mexico City (CDMX), announced the launch of Xoli, a tourist chatbot designed to enhance the experience of national and international visitors in anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Xoli will be the technological instrument that helps us link culture, tourism, recreation, and entertainment with the population. They will be able to ask questions about the city from anywhere in the world,” Brugada stated during its presentation in Iztapalapa.

The WhatsApp virtual assistant is available 24 hours a day and can answer queries in Spanish and English using artificial intelligence and natural language processing. Its development was carried out by the Digital Agency for Public Innovation (ADIP), the technological arm of the capital government, in collaboration with the local Secretariats of Tourism and Culture.

According to capital authorities, this tool will also reduce search times for those visiting the city during high-demand events such as the 2026 World Cup.

What does the Xoli-Guide chatbot offer?

Xoli allows users to consult information on museums, restaurants, hotels, cultural events, concerts, transportation, weather, and recreational activities, among other categories. Additionally, it is capable of answering open-ended questions such as recommendations for activities or events on specific dates, which aims to facilitate the planning of personalized itineraries.

The chatbot can be used via WhatsApp -by adding the number +55 6565 9395- or through the official portal of the city government. It also offers an interactive menu to navigate between different categories.

Although the chatbot emerged as an alternative to guide visitors during the 2026 World Cup, authorities indicated that it will remain permanently active as a digital tourist service channel.

For Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, Secretary of Tourism of the capital, Xoli represents a digital extension of the city’s cultural offerings, which, she said, exceeds 3,000 activities daily.

The implementation of this type of tool is part of a broader strategy to modernize public services and strengthen tourism promotion through digital solutions, positioning Mexico City as a more accessible and innovative destination.

This initiative is part of a series of efforts by Mexico City to prepare for the upcoming global event. Related news includes accelerated mobile infrastructure deployment, regulation of accommodation platforms, and proposals for free internet during the World Cup, all aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and showcasing the city’s capabilities on a global stage.

The city’s commitment to leveraging technology for public services and tourism is evident in the comprehensive approach taken, ensuring that visitors have access to timely and relevant information, thereby making their stay more enjoyable and efficient. The permanent nature of Xoli also underscores a long-term vision for digital innovation in urban services.

The continuous development and integration of such digital platforms are crucial for modern cities looking to manage large-scale events and maintain a high standard of public service. Xoli serves as a testament to Mexico City’s forward-thinking strategy in urban development and tourism.
