Mexico City Metro Extends Service for Shakira’s Zócalo Concert
Mexico City, February 25, 2026 – The Mexico City Collective Transportation System (STC) Metro will extend its public service hours this Sunday, March 1st, to accommodate attendees of Shakira’s free concert in the capital’s Zócalo. Clara Brugada, Head of Government of Mexico City, confirmed the extended schedule during a press conference at the Old City Hall Palace on Tuesday, February 24th.
Brugada detailed that three of the twelve Metro lines will offer extended service to support fans attending the musical event in the Plaza de la Constitución. This presentation will mark the closing of the Colombian singer’s tour in Mexico.
Extended Metro Lines and Operating Hours
Clara Brugada announced that Lines 1 (Observatorio – Pantitlán), 2 (Cuatro Caminos – Tasqueña), and 9 (Tacubaya – Pantitlán) of the Mexico City Metro will have extended hours for the Shakira concert. These lines will operate until 1:00 AM on Monday, March 2nd, to ensure that concert-goers can reach their destinations safely after the event.
The decision aims to facilitate mobility for the large number of attendees expected at the free concert, where Shakira will perform hits such as ‘Loba,’ ‘Día de Enero,’ and ‘Sale el sol.’
Security Measures for the Concert
The Government of Mexico City has also announced a strengthened security operation for the free concert. The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) stated in a communiqué that, following instructions from Head of Government Clara Brugada, working groups have been established with various agencies to coordinate tasks in civil protection, mobility, prevention, and surveillance.
The objective is to ensure that the public enjoys the event without incident, both in the Zócalo and in nearby areas where additional screens will be installed to accommodate a larger audience. The operation involves the participation of the Secretariat of Government, the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, the Secretariat of Mobility, the Secretariat of Culture, the C5, and the Historic Center Authority.
The SSC affirmed that all its sub-secretariats will be involved in the operation, and coordination will be maintained from the beginning to the end of the activities on Sunday, March 1st. A special system is planned for access control, continuous monitoring, and traffic support, given the large crowds expected in the Plaza de la Constitución for such a major event.
This initiative by the Mexico City government underscores its commitment to providing accessible and safe public transportation for major cultural events, ensuring that residents and visitors can enjoy the city’s vibrant offerings.
