Mexico City Metro Line B Resumes Full Service After Maintenance Works
Mexico City, January 12, 2026 – The Mexico City Metro’s Line B has successfully concluded its maintenance works on the elevated section, with all six temporarily closed stations resuming full service today, Monday, January 12, at their usual operating hours from 05:00 to 24:00. The System of Collective Transport (STC) announced the reopening, normalizing mobility for more than 400,000 daily users affected by the operation over the weekend.
The temporary closure, which spanned two days, impacted the following stations:
- San Lázaro
- Flores Magón
- Romero Rubio
- Oceanía
- Deportivo Oceanía
- Bosque de Aragón
These stations are all part of the elevated viaduct. According to the STC Metro, the primary objective of the works was to reinforce structural safety and modernize the infrastructure to address subsidence and track wear.
When did Metro CDMX Line B reopen?
The works concluded on January 11, as planned, allowing for the full resumption of service on Monday, January 12. Authorities stated that the transfer of users with the support of the Passenger Transport Network (RTP) between Villa de Aragón and Morelos stations during the work days was carried out optimally and without incidents.
“The transfer of users with the support of RTP, from Villa de Aragón to Morelos, was carried out optimally, without any major incidents or setbacks,” the institution noted on X.
During the intervention, specialized crews performed the casting of four new girders and the installation of synthetic sleepers in the segment connecting Oceanía with Deportivo Oceanía. The STC Metro detailed that these works began in the early hours of Saturday and included the renewal of essential track components to provide greater rigidity to the box structure in the Oceanía-Romero Rubio and Romero Rubio-Flores Magón sections.
To minimize the impact on mobility, the RTP implemented an alternative service between Morelos and Villa de Aragón. Fifty units participated in the operation, ensuring the transfer of passengers in the affected stations. The STC Metro reported that the scheme functioned “optimally, without any major incidents or setbacks.”
STC Metro Directorate Thanks Line B Users for Understanding
The general director of the Metro, Adrián Rubalcava, emphasized the importance of continuous modernization in the system. According to statements gathered by the STC Metro, the replacement of old wooden sleepers reinforces the operational safety of the elevated viaduct.
The Line B service is now operating again at its usual hours, benefiting those who depend on this essential route in the northeast of the capital. The STC Metro reiterated its commitment to carrying out periodic maintenance to strengthen the infrastructure and maintain the normality of operations.
As a token of appreciation, the Metro’s management and workers publicly thanked users for their understanding and patience during the temporary suspension. They highlighted that citizen cooperation is key to preserving the quality of service in one of the most important public transport arteries in Mexico City.
