Mexico City, July 24 – Amid ongoing protests by residents of Colonia del Valle concerning home invasions, Inti Muñoz, Secretary of Housing for the Mexico City Government and Director General of the Housing Institute (INVI), has issued a stern warning against impunity for groups involved in property dispossession.
Zero Tolerance Against Dispossession
Following the delivery of a social housing building, Muñoz reiterated the city’s firm commitment to combating illegal activities by groups dedicated to property invasion. He highlighted the existence of a Cabinet against dispossession and confirmed that legal reforms have been enacted to address the issue. Muñoz emphasized that there would be “zero impunity” and a “full fight” against those involved, including lawyers and potentially government officials at various levels.
Protests in Colonia del Valle
Residents of Colonia del Valle have been protesting since July 21, blocking traffic at the intersection of Coyoacán Avenue and Matías Romero Street. Their demonstrations are in response to an attempted dispossession on Matías Romero Street and are demanding a decisive response from authorities, asserting that these incidents are not isolated but part of a larger network of “parachutists” in the Benito Juárez borough.
Potential Involvement of Officials
Muñoz’s statements come after questions regarding the alleged responsibility of an individual reportedly involved in invading a house on Matías Romero Street, who is believed to be an official within the capital’s Superior Court of Justice. The Secretary stressed that the message of zero tolerance must reach all individuals involved, including those who may hold public office.

The creation of the Cabinet against dispossession and the implementation of legal reforms underscore the city’s commitment to tackling this problem. Muñoz affirmed that the city is aware of the issue and is taking comprehensive measures to ensure justice and protect property rights.
