Mexico City, February 20 – The Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, announced the establishment of 12 night vaccination centers, which will operate until midnight. This move is part of an intensified mass vaccination campaign aimed at reaching a target of 2 million doses.
Extended Vaccination Hours to Boost Coverage
During a press conference, Brugada explained that six centers commenced operations this Saturday, with an additional six scheduled to open this Monday. All 12 centers are expected to function for a period of 15 days.
The centers that began operating this Saturday are strategically located at the Carmen Serdán Sports Complex, Utopia Santa Cruz, the Zacatenco campus of IPN, Bellas Artes, Parque de los Venados, and in the center of Coyoacán.
The six additional centers opening on Monday will be situated at Deportivo Xochimilco, BioParque San Antonio, Parque Bicentenario, Alameda Sur, Magdalena Mixhuca, and Centro Ixtapacalli.
Clara Brugada emphasized the significant public response to the vaccination drive, reiterating the ambitious goal of administering 2,040,000 doses.
Measles Cases and Ongoing Immunization Efforts
For her part, the Secretary of Health, Nadine Gasman, reported 308 confirmed cases of measles, with the majority occurring in unvaccinated individuals. Gasman clarified that the intensive vaccination strategy, aiming to exceed two million applied doses, will continue for approximately one month. Following this period, immunization efforts will persist, albeit not on a mass scale.
She also mentioned that vaccination modules would be available during the upcoming World Cup, with the primary objective being for visitors to arrive in Mexico with their complete vaccination schedules.
Shakira Concert in the Zócalo Confirmed
In other news, the Head of Government confirmed that the renowned singer Shakira will perform a concert in the Zócalo on March 1st. Brugada highlighted that this event will not incur any cost for Mexico City, as Grupo Modelo will cover all expenses to commemorate its anniversary.
The city’s administration is actively reinforcing its public health initiatives through these extended vaccination hours, demonstrating a commitment to widespread immunization. Concurrently, the logistical preparations for the highly anticipated Shakira concert underscore the city’s ability to manage large-scale events while prioritizing public welfare.
