Mexico City, Mexico – On Friday, January 10, 2026, personnel from the Undersecretariat of Mayoral Programs and Public Road Reordering (SPARVP) of Mexico City, in collaboration with the Auxiliary Police of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), carried out inspection tours in the A and B perimeters of the Historic Center. The objective was to ensure compliance with regulations prohibiting street vending.
Actions to Recover Public Space in the Historic Center
According to the Mexico City Government Secretariat (SECGOB), during these tours, the installation of semi-fixed and mobile stalls on sidewalks and roadways was detected. These stalls obstructed pedestrian and vehicular mobility, leading to their removal and the recovery of public space.
Stalls Removed and One Arrest Made
On Manuel Peña y Peña Street, a semi-fixed stall selling vape products was dismantled. Authorities confiscated over 5,000 units of vape devices. During the operation, auxiliary police arrested a 26-year-old male who was found in possession of two firearms and suspected drugs. He was subsequently handed over to the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City. The confiscated vape products were delivered to the Health Protection Agency of the Mexico City Government for final disposal.
Furthermore, in various locations including Vidal Alcocer, Eje 1 Norte, República de Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Argentina, and Apartado, authorities removed stalls, irregular commerce, structures, and grates that impeded free transit. Established businesses were also requested to remove awnings that obstructed the visibility of C5 cameras.
These actions are part of ongoing efforts by Mexico City authorities to maintain order and ensure the free flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the Historic Center, a vital area for both residents and tourists.
