Mexico City, January 16 – Mexico City Prosecutor Bertha Alcalde highlighted a 12% reduction in high-impact crimes and a 15% increase in judicializations and arrests during her 2025 annual report. Alcalde emphasized that the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office boasts some of the best results nationwide.
Significant Progress in Justice System
In her first work report, Bertha Alcalde attributed these advancements to the strengthening of personnel and various investigation and litigation areas. This strategic focus led to a remarkable 91% conviction rate in sentences, placing Mexico City’s Attorney General’s Office among the top state prosecutor’s offices in the country.
“During 2025, more than 90 percent of sentences were condemnatory; this places us among the state prosecutor’s offices with the best results in the country, and demonstrates that our investigations not only reach trial, but are solidly built. Fewer crimes, more judicializations, more fulfilled orders and more condemnatory sentences. That is the path of justice that does yield results,” Alcalde stated.
Combating Corruption and Improving Citizen Services
As part of the ongoing fight against corruption, more than a hundred individuals within the Attorney General’s Office were sanctioned. Additionally, the waiting time for citizen attention was significantly reduced to just 32 minutes. Alcalde also noted a 50% reduction in the backlog of investigation files over the past year.
Commitment to Ongoing Transformation
Despite the considerable progress, Prosecutor Alcalde acknowledged a historical debt in the administration of justice and pledged to continue transforming the institution under her charge. She reaffirmed her commitment to tirelessly investigate the homicide case of former city government officials Ximena Guzmán and José Muñoz.
“The homicide of our colleagues José and Ximena deeply pained us and reminded us of the risk faced by those who dedicate their lives to serving the people. We are making steady progress in this investigation in conjunction with the Security Secretariat of this city and the Federal Security Secretariat. Today, eight arrest warrants have been executed for homicide offenses, in addition to the arrests made at the time for femicide, criminal association, and homicide against those responsible, and we are committed to continuing the investigation tirelessly to apprehend all those involved,” Alcalde declared.
Increased Reparatory Agreements and Victim Compensation
Finally, the prosecutor highlighted a significant 185% increase in reparatory agreements compared to 2024. This included the payment of 700 million pesos in compensation for damages to victims, among them, relatives of the gas tanker explosion at the Puente de La Concordia in Iztapalapa.
The Attorney General’s Office continues its efforts to ensure justice and safety for the citizens of Mexico City, with a clear focus on reducing crime, increasing accountability, and providing effective support to victims.
