Mexico City, March 29 – Despite rising temperatures in most parts of Mexico, a polar air mass associated with cold front number 42 will bring cold mornings and nights to the north, northeast, center, and east of the country, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN).

Freezing Temperatures Expected Across Mexico

For this Sunday, March 29, minimum temperatures of -10 to -5 degrees Celsius are forecast for high-altitude areas of Chihuahua and Durango. Temperatures of -5 to 0 degrees Celsius, accompanied by frosts, are expected in mountainous regions of Baja California, Sonora, Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Veracruz, and Oaxaca. In mountainous areas of Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacán, and Mexico City, temperatures are predicted to range from 0 to 5 degrees Celsius.

Preventive Measures Recommended

Due to these low temperatures, the public is advised to take preventive measures such as dressing warmly, staying adequately hydrated, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and paying special attention to chronic patients, children, and the elderly.

Weather Systems Influencing Conditions

The SMN explained that these conditions will be influenced by the cold front moving over the Gulf of Mexico, a low-pressure trough in southeastern Mexico, the subtropical jet stream, an upper-level trough over the western part of the Mexican Republic, moisture ingress from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, and atmospheric instability.

Rain and Hail Forecast

Additionally, an upper-level trough over western Mexico, low-pressure channels over the interior of the country, moisture ingress from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, and atmospheric instability will cause showers and heavy rains with electrical discharges in states in the east, south, and southeast of the country. Possible hailfall is also forecast for states in the north, west, and center of the national territory, with very heavy punctual rains expected in Chihuahua and Durango.

Northwest Mexico to Experience Heat

Despite the cold air ingress, hot weather will persist. An anticyclonic circulation will maintain high temperatures in much of the country, especially in the west and south.

High Temperatures Expected

During the weekend, maximum temperatures of between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius are expected in areas of Sonora, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Guerrero, and other entities, while in wide regions, values of 35 to 40 degrees Celsius will be maintained.
