Mexico City to Welcome World Cup with One Million Flowers and Plants
Mexico City, March 20 – The capital city will welcome the upcoming World Cup in June with one million flowers and plants, sourced from conservation land, to be installed on main avenues and medians. This announcement was made by the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, during the inauguration of the first “Festival of Spring and Ornamental Flowers.”
The initiative involves the weekly installation of 300,000 plants across various points in the city. These plants are purchased directly from local producers in conservation areas, ensuring a sustainable and community-supported approach to urban beautification.
A Green Transformation for the Global Event
Clara Brugada explained that the city government is purchasing a million plants to adorn iconic locations such as Paseo de la Reforma and other principal avenues. “Generally, plants are bought each season and changed, but now it is different. Today, all the plants are bought from conservation land and from the producers; that is why you see in Reforma that there are a few plants missing, because we were waiting for the production to finish,” she stated.
This strategy not only enhances the city’s aesthetics but also supports local agriculture and promotes ecological sustainability. The continuous replenishment of 300,000 plants each week will ensure a vibrant and welcoming environment for both residents and international visitors during the World Cup.
