The project to transform Mexico City’s waste into fuel for electricity generation in Europe demonstrates the potential of leveraging waste, explained the Green Party (PVEM). This initiative aims to reduce the amount of materials destined for final disposal and promote more sustainable waste management.
Green Party Emphasizes Benefits of Circular Economy Law
The PVEM highlighted that the transformation of waste into usable resources contributes to reducing the volume of materials sent to landfills and fosters more sustainable management. The party emphasized that the project, which will convert thousands of tons of daily waste from Mexico City into fuel for electricity generation in Europe, showcases the potential to utilize waste and decrease landfill volume.
The plan, according to the PVEM, involves using part of these materials to produce pellets that will be sent to Germany. These pellets will be utilized as fuel in industrial facilities, with the goal of reducing the use of hydrocarbons and giving new life to waste products.
Key Aspects of the New Legislation
The PVEM explained the advantages of the General Law on Circular Economy, which was championed by the party in the Chamber of Deputies. Among its benefits, the law aims to recover, utilize, and valorize waste, as well as diminish its environmental impact.
The new legislation, the PVEM specified, establishes measures designed to extend the lifespan of products, minimize waste generation, and encourage its recovery, utilization, and valorization. It also defines the competencies of the Federation, federative entities, municipalities, and territorial demarcations of Mexico City, the political party detailed in a statement.
This initiative underscores a significant step towards sustainable waste management and energy production, aligning with global efforts to reduce environmental footprints and transition to more circular economic models.
