Mexico City, February 17 – The Mayor of Miguel Hidalgo, Mauricio Tabe, on Monday called on the Mexico City government to provide support for operations aimed at removing informal street vendors. This request follows aggressions suffered by his counterpart in Cuauhtémoc, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, and her team on February 13.
Tabe Highlights Resident Demands for Clear Public Spaces
Mayor Tabe asserted that residents themselves are demanding public spaces free from informal commerce. However, he acknowledged the presence of strong political and economic interests that favor the continued presence of street vendors.
“Which side is the City Government taking: the side of authority and order in the streets or the side of violence?” Tabe questioned during a press conference.
