Missing American Couple Found Deceased Near Mexico City After Disappearance

MEXICO CITY (apro).– Federal and state authorities have located the bodies of a couple reported missing since May 20th, during an operation carried out in the La Marquesa area, in the municipality of Ocoyoacac, State of Mexico.

The remains were found buried in a clandestine grave located behind a cabin in a wooded area known as Valle del Silencio. Personnel from various corporations had been conducting search operations related to the case in this area.

The victims were identified as Guillermo Jaffet Hidalgo Ortiz, 57, and Zafar Padamsee Mawani, 56. According to information released, they held dual Mexican and American nationality and resided in Chicago, while temporarily staying in the municipality of Huixquilucan, State of Mexico.

Couple Disappeared After Appointment in Tlalpan

The investigation indicates that both left on May 20th to meet with a person related to the purchase and installation of an elevator for people with disabilities. Before losing contact with their relatives, they shared their real-time location with a close friend. Hours later, both cell phones stopped emitting a signal and were turned off. The last registered activity occurred around 6:20 PM that day.

Initial inquiries suggest that the couple arrived in the Tlalpan borough to finalize the meeting and were subsequently intercepted by third parties, although authorities have not officially reported the mechanics of the events.

Investigation Included Bank Movements and Coordinated Search

The case gained relevance after relatives detected bank movements made one day after the disappearance, a situation that was reported to ministerial authorities and strengthened lines of investigation regarding a possible illegal deprivation of liberty.

Relatives also requested support from the United States Embassy in Mexico to follow up on the investigations and expand the search for the couple, whose case began to be disseminated in US media due to their residence in Chicago.

The operation involved elements of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico, and the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City, as well as specialized personnel in the search for missing persons.

Authorities Keep Investigations Open

Following the discovery, authorities are continuing with expert investigations to establish the causes of death and determine the responsibility of those involved in the events. As of the time of writing, no official information has been released regarding arrests related to this case. Investigations remain open as ministerial and expert work continues in the area where the bodies were found.
