Motorcyclist Dies in Collision with Tesla Model 3 in Mexico City: Video Footage to Aid Investigation

Mexico City, May 10 – A motorcyclist tragically died on the night of Saturday, May 9, after a collision with a Tesla Model 3 in the Álvaro Obregón borough of Mexico City. The fatal accident, which occurred at the intersection of Barranca del Muerto Avenue and Anillo Periférico Sur in the Merced Gómez neighborhood, was captured by security cameras and another motorist, and the footage will be crucial in the ongoing investigation.

Details of the Fatal Collision

According to initial reports, the impact took place around 11:05 PM. The victim was riding a motorcycle when it collided with the Tesla, driven by a 23-year-old woman.

Images circulated on social media show the Tesla proceeding through the intersection when the traffic light was green on Barranca del Muerto. Seconds later, the motorcyclist reportedly crossed the intersection at high speed, despite allegedly having a red light. The motorcycle struck the right side of the Tesla, ejecting the rider several meters. Preliminary versions suggest that the helmet detached upon impact, causing the motorcyclist to fall directly onto the pavement.

The recorded footage will be integrated into the investigation file opened by the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City, which aims to determine accountability and clarify the exact circumstances of the incident.

Emergency Services Confirm Death

Following a report to the 911 emergency number, elements of the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat and paramedics from the Emergency Rescue and Medical Urgencies Squad (ERUM) swiftly arrived at the scene. Medical teams confirmed that the motorcyclist no longer showed vital signs. Authorities cordoned off the area while forensic services personnel carried out the removal of the body.

While some reports indicated the victim was between 35 and 40 years old, other preliminary reports estimated an age between 25 and 30 years.

Tesla Driver Receives Medical Attention

The woman driving the Tesla received medical attention at the scene and was subsequently transferred to a hospital for further evaluation. The capital’s Prosecutor’s Office stated that it would analyze videos, testimonies, and expert opinions to establish whether any of those involved violated Mexico City’s Traffic Regulations. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities meticulously reviewing all available evidence to piece together the sequence of events leading to the tragic death. The emphasis is on understanding the roles of both drivers and determining if any traffic laws were breached. The community awaits further updates as the Attorney General’s Office continues its work to bring clarity and justice to the case.
