Mexico City, July 1 – Fátima Ozoara Cid Vázquez, a 20-year-old nurse, has been found dead after disappearing on June 21st in Mexico City. Her body was located in a border area between Morelos and the State of Mexico. Authorities have detained a man, Joel Ricardo “N”, in connection with the case.

Disappearance After Work Shift

Fátima Ozoara was last seen on June 21st, around 8:00 AM, after finishing her shift as a nursing assistant at a hospital in the Olivar de los Padres neighborhood, Álvaro Obregón borough. Her family reported her missing when she did not return home. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a navy blue surgical uniform. Distinctive features included a scar on her left elbow and a red butterfly tattoo on her right abdomen.

Following the report, elements of the Investigative Police (PDI), ministerial personnel, and forensic experts activated search and investigation protocols. These included interviews, analysis of video recordings, and fieldwork. Family members stated that surveillance camera footage showed Fátima leaving her workplace and walking normally, but her trail was lost shortly thereafter.

Suspect Detained and Body Located

The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX) announced that on June 23rd, Joel Ricardo “N” was arrested. He is suspected of involvement in Fátima Ozoara’s disappearance and subsequent death. The investigation led to his in-flagrante arrest, and he was placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.

During the initial hearing, a control judge deemed the arrest legal. The FGJCDMX formally charged Joel Ricardo “N” with the crime of aggravated disappearance of a person committed by a private individual and requested his vinculation to process. The defense requested a duplication of the constitutional term, meaning the hearing will continue on Tuesday, June 30th, at 2:30 PM, to determine if he will be formally charged. In the meantime, the judicial authority imposed official preventive detention as a precautionary measure.

The FGJCDMX stated that it would continue investigations in coordination with authorities from the State of Mexico and Morelos to determine responsibility for the events and strengthen the accusation.

Identification of the Body

After more than a week of searching and family demands for progress in the case, Fátima Ozoara’s body was found in a border area between Morelos and the State of Mexico, where authorities had established an area of interest. The Morelos State Commission for the Search for Persons led the efforts, locating the body of a young woman on the Santa Martha-Cuernavaca highway, in the Ojo de Agua area of the Ocuilán municipality.

Her identification was later carried out by Fátima Ozoara’s family at the Forensic Medical Service of the State of Mexico, with the assistance of Investigative Police personnel and a support unit. The FGJCDMX reiterated its commitment to continue investigations to clarify the facts and ensure justice for Fátima Ozoara’s family.

Alleged Relationship with the Suspect

According to reports from journalist Carlos Jiménez, Joel Ricardo “N” has been identified as Fátima Ozoara’s sentimental partner. He is alleged to be responsible for both her disappearance and femicide.
