Mexico City, June 30 – Fátima Ozoara Cid Vázquez, a 20-year-old nurse who disappeared after finishing her shift in Mexico City, has been found dead. Authorities confirmed the tragic discovery, and a suspect has been detained in connection with the case.
Disappearance After Work in Álvaro Obregón
Fátima Ozoara was last seen on June 21, around 8:00 AM, after leaving her workplace as a nursing assistant in the Olivar de los Padres neighborhood of the Álvaro Obregón borough. Her family reported her missing when she did not return home, prompting an immediate investigation.
At the time of her disappearance, Fátima was wearing a navy blue surgical uniform. Her distinguishing features included a scar on her left elbow and a red butterfly tattoo on the right side of her abdomen, according to her missing person’s report.
Investigation Leads to Arrest
Following the report, elements of the Investigative Police (PDI), ministerial personnel, and experts initiated search and investigation protocols. These included interviews, analysis of video recordings, and fieldwork.
Family members stated that surveillance camera footage from the area showed Fátima leaving her workplace and walking normally before her trail was lost. However, the ongoing investigation allowed authorities to identify a possible suspect.
Suspect Detained and Body Located
The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX) announced that on June 23, Joel Ricardo “N” was arrested in flagrante delicto. He is suspected of involvement in Fátima Ozoara Cid’s disappearance and subsequent death.
During the initial hearing, a control judge deemed the arrest legal. The FGJCDMX then charged Joel Ricardo “N” with the aggravated disappearance of a person committed by a private individual and requested his prosecution. The defense requested a duplication of the constitutional term, and the hearing was scheduled to continue on June 30 at 2:30 PM to determine whether he would be formally prosecuted. In the interim, the judicial authority imposed preventive detention as a precautionary measure.
The FGJCDMX stated that it would continue its investigations in coordination with authorities from the State of Mexico and Morelos to determine responsibility for the events and strengthen the accusation.
Identification of the Body
After more than a week of searching and persistent demands from her family for progress in the case, Fátima’s body was found in an area bordering Morelos and the State of Mexico. Authorities had established a specific area of interest for their search.
The Morelos State Commission for the Search for Persons led the efforts that resulted in the discovery of a young woman’s body on the Santa Martha-Cuernavaca highway, in the Ojo de Agua area of the Ocuilán municipality.
Fátima Ozoara’s family later identified her at the Forensic Medical Service of the State of Mexico, with the assistance of Investigative Police personnel and a specialized support unit.
The FGJCDMX reiterated its commitment to continue investigations to clarify the facts and ensure Fátima Ozoara’s family access to justice.
Possible Motive and Relationship to Suspect
According to reports from journalist Carlos Jiménez, Joel Ricardo “N” has been identified as Fátima Ozoara’s sentimental partner. He is believed to be responsible for both her disappearance and femicide.
The authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death or the full extent of Joel Ricardo “N”‘s involvement, as investigations are ongoing.
