The residence, located in the 16 de Septiembre neighborhood, was reportedly operating as a car wash when the exotic animals were discovered.
Details of the Seizure Operation
The operation, which led to the discovery and seizure of the two protected species, occurred on August 7, 2026. Authorities conducted a thorough search of the premises, which culminated in the finding of the two large animals.
Condition of the Animals
According to PROFEPA, the Bengal tiger is a male, approximately four years old, and weighs around 250 kilograms. Initial assessments indicated that the tiger was in apparent good health, with its fangs and claws intact. The swamp crocodile also appeared to be in good condition, despite having a minor injury on the lower part of its snout.
Both animals have since been transferred to a Wildlife Management and Handling Facility (PIMVS) for their protection and proper care, ensuring their well-being and safety.

PROFEPA highlighted the legal significance of this seizure. The swamp crocodile is listed under the NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 in the Special Protection category and is also included in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The Bengal tiger, a highly endangered species, is listed in Appendix I of CITES, emphasizing its critical conservation status.
The federal agency has confirmed its commitment to collaborate with the Public Ministry of the Chihuahua State Attorney General’s Office, Northern Zone, to ensure the thorough integration of the corresponding investigation file. This collaboration aims to identify and prosecute those responsible for the illegal possession of these protected species.
