Reciclatrón CDMX June 2026: Your Guide to Responsible Electronic Waste Disposal

Do you have a corner in your house filled with old cell phones, broken chargers, dead remotes, tangled headphones, forgotten computers, or even a microwave you “someday” planned to fix? Many of these items cannot simply be thrown in the regular trash due to their hazardous components. This is where Reciclatrón comes in.

Screens, batteries, laptops, refrigerators, and other electronics contain polluting materials that require special handling. Disposing of them with household waste can harm soil, water, and even human health. To combat this, the Reciclatrón CDMX program, an environmental initiative by the Secretariat of Environment (Sedema), collects electronic and electrical waste for proper treatment.

So, if you have an old oven, a dusty computer, or a bag full of cables you don’t even know why you kept, this is likely where they should end up.

What is Reciclatrón and Why is it Important Not to Throw Electronics in the Trash?

Reciclatrón is a collection program for electronic and electrical waste that promotes responsible recycling and prevents these items from contaminating streets, landfills, or drains. Many devices contain metals, chemicals, and components that require special separation and recycling processes. The program aims to recover useful materials, reduce pollution, and foster a culture where electronics do not automatically become trash.

What Can You Bring to Reciclatrón CDMX?

The accepted waste includes a wide range of items:

  • Batteries and cells
  • Cell phones and tablets
  • Laptops and CPUs
  • Screens and televisions
  • Headphones, cables, and speakers
  • Printers and toners
  • Drones and controllers
  • Coffee makers and microwaves
  • Fans, irons, and hair dryers
  • Refrigerators and washing machines
  • CDs, DVDs, cassettes, and floppy disks

Laptop, phone, and vehicle batteries are also accepted, but they must be transported in sturdy containers.

What Reciclatrón Does NOT Accept:

Not all items are accepted during the collection days. Sedema has specified that the following will NOT be received:

  • Energy-saving light bulbs
  • Fluorescent lamps
  • Public wiring
  • Modems
  • Disassembled equipment
  • Broken or contaminated devices

Additionally, it is recommended to bring items clean and, preferably, complete to facilitate the recycling process.

Reciclatrón Also Accepts “Dead” Technology

One of the most interesting details of the program is that it still accepts formats that are practically obsolete. If you still have cassettes, VHS tapes, floppy disks, old DVDs, or memory cards at home, you can also bring them to the recycling days.
