Mexico City, April 5 – A confrontation between Mexico City police and alleged criminals in the exclusive Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood of the Miguel Hidalgo borough resulted in one suspect dead and another arrested. The incident, which involved a shootout, occurred yesterday evening as police thwarted a home invasion.
Police Respond to Robbery Report
According to official reports, officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) received a radio alert regarding a possible robbery on Montañas Rocallosas street. A private security guard had contacted police after observing several individuals entering a residence.
The immediate alert allowed officers to swiftly deploy to the area, leading to a rapid response that prevented the completion of the robbery.
Armed Confrontation and Arrest
Upon arrival, police observed two individuals fleeing the residence. One of the suspects opened fire on the officers, who, perceiving a threat to their safety, returned fire. The SSC confirmed that one of the aggressors attempted to escape in a black vehicle but was fatally wounded. Paramedics on site confirmed his death.
The second suspect was immediately apprehended by the police.
Images shared by journalist Carlos Jiménez on social media showed the alleged criminals attempting to board a luxury Range Rover SUV. Another BMW SUV was reportedly found inside the affected home, indicating the upscale nature of the targeted property.
Evidence Seized and Ongoing Investigation
During a search of the vehicle, police discovered two short-barreled firearms, a backpack containing various tools, and a safe. These items, along with the 28-year-old detained individual, have been handed over to the Public Ministry agent for legal processing and further investigation.
Recent Similar Incidents in Mexico City
This incident follows another successful intervention by the SSC on March 26, 2026, when a pursuit related to the robbery of an armored vehicle in the Jardines del Pedregal neighborhood, Álvaro Obregón borough, led to the death of a Colombian citizen and the arrest of three other individuals.
In that case, the suspects intercepted employees of a security company and stole two bags containing approximately one million pesos in cash. The criminals fled on motorcycles, driving against traffic on the second floor of the Periférico. Police successfully blocked their escape route, leading to the arrests. Two suspects were injured when their motorcycle skidded; the Colombian national later died in the hospital.
Authorities recovered firearms, ammunition, bulletproof vests, and a portion of the stolen money from the March incident. These events highlight the ongoing efforts of Mexico City’s security forces to combat organized crime and ensure public safety.
The SSC continues to urge citizens to report any suspicious activities to their quadrant numbers, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in preventing crime.
