Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – June 29, 2026 – In a concerted effort to enforce alcohol regulations, inspectors from the Undersecretariat of Government closed 10 businesses in Ciudad Juárez last week. The majority of these establishments were found to be operating as unlicensed terraces, prompting immediate closure.
Extensive Inspections Across Chihuahua State
During the same period, the Undersecretariat of Government conducted a total of 258 inspections of establishments that sell or commercialize alcoholic beverages throughout the state of Chihuahua. These inspections led to 15 closures statewide, with Ciudad Juárez accounting for 10 of them. Four closures occurred in the city of Chihuahua, and one in Nuevo Casas Grandes.
Unlicensed Terraces Among the Closed Establishments
Among the six terraces that were shut down for lacking the necessary operating permits were three unnamed event venues, in addition to “Terraza Pollito Mojado,” “Terraza La Cachorra,” and “Terraza Moscú.” These closures highlight a growing concern over businesses operating outside legal frameworks, particularly in the hospitality sector.
Further enforcement actions included the closure of the recreational center “El Camino” and the bar “Club Brasil,” both for operating outside of their permitted hours. The bar “Club Niza” was also shut down for failing to revalidate its license, and the liquor store “Súper Six Gaby” faced closure due to a violation of its operating permit, indicating a broader crackdown on various types of alcohol-related businesses.
Previous Incidents and Ongoing Concerns
This recent wave of closures follows earlier reports of similar issues in Ciudad Juárez. Previously, five establishments selling alcohol were sanctioned, with three of them identified as “pirate” garden terraces. One such terrace was notably closed after a child tragically drowned there, prompting investigations into whether the venue had adequate safety measures, such as lifeguards.
The Undersecretariat of Government continues to emphasize the importance of compliance with the Law of Alcohols to ensure public safety and order. These actions are part of an ongoing commitment to regulate the sale and consumption of alcohol, preventing unauthorized operations and ensuring that businesses adhere to established legal guidelines.
Community Impact and Future Enforcement
The closures are expected to have a significant impact on the local business landscape, particularly for those operating illegally. Authorities have indicated that further inspections and enforcement actions will continue to be carried out to maintain compliance across the state. The goal is to create a safer environment for residents and visitors by ensuring that all establishments adhere to legal and safety standards.
This initiative is also aimed at addressing concerns raised by the community regarding noise, public safety, and unfair competition from unlicensed venues. The Undersecretariat of Government encourages citizens to report any suspicious or illegal operations of alcohol-selling establishments to aid in their ongoing enforcement efforts.
